The recent ports of Final Fantasy VII all shipped with an annoying glitch that affected the music, which has finally prompted Square Enix to release a patch for the Nintendo Switch and Xbox One versions of the game. The music glitch in Final Fantasy VII causes the background music to reset after a battle ends. In the original version of Final Fantasy VII, the background music would pause when a battle started and would resume when it ended....

The Game Awards 2019 is just a few hours away from airing, with host Geoff Keighley confirming on Twitter that rehearsals are done and the show is ready. Based on the book Meg: A Novel Of Deep Terror by Steve Alten which came out in 1997, just four years after Jurassic Park redefined the blockbuster movie, The Meg similarly imagines what would happen if a prehistoric creature thought to be extinct, resurfaced because of mankind’s meddling and posed a serious threat to the modern world....

Following the news that the NES Classic Mini console was being discontinued in North American territories, it’s now reported by Eurogamer that the miniature NES console is no longer in production in Europe. Which means it’s no longer in production at all. Anywhere. Nintendo has said that the NES Mini, which came preloaded with 30 classic NES games, was never intended to be a long term product. The console launched last year in time for Christmas, and retailers sold out almost immediately....

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order has been in the news a lot lately. It was one of gaming’s best surprises in 2019, with the game translating Dark Souls mechanics into a surprisingly approachable format. Of course, that doesn’t mean that it has no quirks. It raises some interesting questions about how the Force works, which, as it turns out, is a wildly inconsistent thing. Specifically, resources looted from the ruins of the old world. It makes sense that a bunch of people used to electric lights and not having dysentery would seek out the things to keep up that standard of living....

In July, readers of The Walking Dead comics got their final surprise from creator Robert Kirkman when it was announced that issue #193 was to be the series’ last installment. Kirkman had reached an endpoint with the story and didn’t want to go on just for the sake of going on. CD Projekt, developer of The Witcher series and Cyberpunk 2077, as well as the owner of the GOG PC store, will halt all game sales in Russia and Belarus. This includes games it has made - including physical stock deliveries - as well as all games sold via GOG. The move is a significant one, as it marks CD Projekt as the first major publisher and platform holder to decide to pull all business from Russia and its ally Belarus over the former’s invasion of Ukraine....

Injustice 2, sequel to 2013’s Injustice: Gods Among us, has a new trailer to show off the first three DLC characters, these being Sub-Zero, Starfire, and Red Hood. In case you’re not familiar, Sub-Zero is a Mortal Kombat mainstay (having been in every MK game) with the power to control ice. Red Hood and Starfire are both DC heroes: Red Hood is kid of a gangster vigilante, and Starfire is an alien princess powered by ultraviolet radiation....

The Dino Crisis series for the original PlayStation gave gamers a look at what would happen if Resident Evil merged with Jurassic Park. But now it looks like Mario could have somehow made it into the mix as well. Recently, a dataminer digging through the files of the Dino Crisis 2 trial disc discovered something incredibly surprising. The disc includes a strange cover of the original Mario Bros theme hidden in its audio files....

Nintendo confirmed during its final Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct broadcast that Street Fighter’s Ken is joining the roster, alongside the feline Pokemon Incineroar. Ken is obviously very similar to Ryu, but he does have a number of differences. Some of his moves set your enemies alight, he’s faster than Ryu, and his Hadouken differs somewhat in terms of appearance. Incineroar meanwhile is a Pokemon that looks like it has been hitting the weights, as it’s pretty hench and packs a mean punch....

PAX West is only a week away and the list of cool new tactical RPGs debuting at the convention is ever-growing. Call it the Fire Emblem Effect if you will, players are finally getting invested in this genre that was once so niche that more than a decade passed between Advance Wars (2001) on the gameboy and the reboot of the X-COM series Enemy Unknown (2012) without a single tactics games really becoming a hit in the mainstream....

Techland has detailed the full line-up of DLC included in Dying Light’s Season Pass – but most of it can be picked up for free by purchasing the game from selected retailers. The £15.99 Season Pass offers access to three DLC packs, including the ‘Cuisine & Cargo’ pack, the ‘Ultimate Survivor Bundle’, and ‘The Bozak Horde’. Bizarrely, Techland claims that the Cuisine & Cargo pack is “available exclusively as a part of the Season Pass offer”, which clearly isn’t the case....
