The BAFTA Young Game Designer winner, Dan Smith, will be releasing The Spectrum Retreat next month on PC. The Spectrum Retreat is a first-person narrative puzzle adventure where players explore a strange hotel called The Penrose. Players will have to travel through the hotel and solve colour-coded puzzles uncovering the reasons behind their seemingly never-ending stay. We’ve had a look at an early build of the game and it can be quite tough but the puzzle system is really well put together....

It appears that a lot of people received Nintendo Switches for Christmas, as the console outsold the PS4 and Xbox One combined in December 2018. The Nintendo Switch continues to break all sorts of records, as do its games. Just recently, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate became the fastest selling Nintendo game of all time. It seems that everybody wants a Switch, and why wouldn’t they? It’s an innovative console and one where Nintendo has once again successfully set itself apart from its rivals....

On December 14, Necromunda: Underhive Wars will receive its first DLC, which will add the Van Saar Gang to the ongoing battle in the Underhive. The Van Saar Gang is the fourth gang to join the tactical, turn-based, strategy RPG. These hooligans pride themselves on their technological superiority. If you’re unfamiliar with Necromunda: Underhive Wars, it is based on a tabletop game from the Warhammer 40K universe. In the campaign, three gangs battle among themselves as they hunt for lost artifacts known as Archeotech in the depths of a city....

Some very promising previews led the way this week, L.A. Noire, Dead Island and Mortal Kombat all very interesting in their own unique way. Some positive reviews for Top Spin 4, RIFT and MotoGP 10/11 managed to completely over-shadow the rather less-than-positive critique of Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime. The top stories of the week included Homefront storming to the top of the UK charts (despite a 6.4/10 from us), the possibility of a new Hitman game and another delay to the elusive Duke Nukem Forever....

Joe Exotic, Tiger King and the mullet that launched a thousand memes has become an instant megastar thanks to the Netflix documentary Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness which arrived on the streaming service at the end of March and has become the internet’s new obsession. It’s a very weird doc that seems to have captured people’s imaginations and left them wanting more. Today Konami hosted a stage event at Tokyo Game Show and announced the return of the Suikoden series, albeit only in remaster form. The title is “Suikoden I&II HD Remaster Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars” and it’s pretty much what it says on the tin, a remaster of the first two games coming in 2023 for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. The graphics have been improved, resolution aside, with boosted environment design, additional effects, and new animations for lights, clouds, shadows, flames, smoke, foliage, and insects....

Summoners War lost Centuria is a real-time strategy game coupled with a gripping solo storyline. The crux of the game is building a great line-up with your friends that can eventually thrash your enemies. To build an alliance with your friends you will need to share your player ID. With an array of characters to choose from all with different elemental abilities. Various abilities and levels of characters bring a nice layer of complexity....

A sealed copy of the original 1985 Super Mario Bros. for NES has been sold for an earth-shattering $100,150, around £78,000. Blimey! It’s a record-breaking sum, and the most anyone has forked out for a single video game that has had its condition professionally certified. Sealed copies of Super Mario Bros. are intrinsically worth a pretty penny, obviously, but this one more so as it’s one of the earliest US copies available, used by Ninty to test the waters in New York and LA prior to the NES’ wider release....

With the confirmation of a Nintendo-themed park being added to Universal Studios Japan, and fans’ general excitement and discord for all things Nintendo, Twitter insiders have weighed in on when the park will jump to the U.S. That question of when the park arrives has been kept under close watch following the 2015 agreement made for U.S.J., and the 2017 deal made between Nintendo and Illumination–a subsidiary of Universal in film entertainment and the animation team behind the Despicable Me films, the respective Minions spinoff, and Secret Life of Pets series....

The backstories of the main characters of Bandai Namco‘s Tales of Arise were revealed in a trailer at series fan event Tales of Festival 2019. Further information was provided on the game’s blog. It was just one year ago when Telltale games revealed that it was working on a sequel to its hit title The Wolf Among Us. Since then, the developer has been quiet about that title while pushing out others, leaving fans in the dark. Today though, fans are in the dark no longer, although the news isn’t what many may want to hear. The Wolf Among Us 2 is still in development, says Telltale, but it’s a far way from being shown publicly....

The official Test Drive Twitter account has announced that we’ll be getting our first proper look at the forthcoming latest entry in the open world racing series—Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown— tomorrow in a new trailer. With the long-running series now in the hands of publisher Nacon, development duties are being handled by KT Racing, who are also responsible for the World Championship Rally or WRC series. Promised is “a driving and lifestyle experience unlike any other” and aims to bring back the freedom of the previous Test Drive Unlimited open world racing games from Eden Games and Atari back in the mid-to-late 00s....

The first year of the new decade is looking like it’ll be a huge one for Xbox, with the announcement that their new console will be released by the end of 2020. Mario is one of the most popular characters in the gaming world. Not only is Mario Nintendo’s mascot, but since his debut as Jumpman, he’s been seen in over 200 games. As the Borderlands 3 Broken Hearts Day event comes to an end, many have hopefully got their hands on a anointed Wedding Invitation Sniper Rifle. Many will after that, if they haven’t already, be striving to hit the new level cap, farming new weapons, and producing new builds, many of which will revolve around the Wedding Invitation.
