Some of the most beloved game franchises, many that are still around today, were the creations of these bygone studios. Some of these development studios just couldn’t keep up with changing trends and technology, but a lot of them are victims of EA’s relentless mission to dominate the video game industry....

As a huge fan of Diablo III, The Ascent is a game I’ve been keeping a close eye on. Despite being the debut title from Swedish developer Neon Giant, I have high hopes for it. Electronic Arts has confirmed that Battlefield 5 will officially be revealed during a livestream on May 23. The date was previously outed after eagle-eyed fans pieced together a Battlefield 1 Easter egg using morse code, which led to a teaser site. However, we now have a time for the reveal: 9.00pm BST, and it’ll be hosted by Trevor Noah of The Daily Show fame. EA hasn’t shared anymore details on Battlefield 5 yet, although there’s been plenty of rumours doing the rounds the past few months....

As Pokémon fans know, the type chart has got a little convoluted and tough to remember now. There are 18 different types, and the interactions between them are many, varied, and sometimes nonsensical. Many Pokémon are dual type, which further complicates the whole thing in terms of weaknesses and resistances. As a veteran Poké-player, I’ve adapted to the many twists and turns of the system. This means everything, including the fact that Gengar is weak to Ground again now (as a Poison type that recently lost its Levitate ability) and all of that good stuff....

Big changes are coming to The Division 2. The most recent State of the Game presentation from Massive Entertainment revealed early plans for its massive overhaul of The Division 2’s gear system. The change will require a complete reset of all in-game gear, which Massive acknowledges may not be popular be still sees as necessary. The Division 2’s new gear system, Massive explains, will be much more intuitive, deeper, and satisfying to all of the game’s current playerbase....

The Division’s DLC will be exclusive to Xbox One for 30 days before arriving on PS4 and, presumably, PC, it’s been revealed. While the exclusivity period has yet to be formally confirmed by Ubisoft, it was discussed in a new video posted by US retailer GameStop, where it was revealed that new content will be delivered to Xbox One “30 days before Sony will see it”. Ubisoft revealed its DLC plans for The Division last month, confirming plans to roll out three new premium expansion packs following the game’s release, plus a range of additional free updates introducing new modes and co-op challenges....

I’m The Incredibles 2 director Brad Bird’s last interview of the day. The Mandalorian’s upcoming second season will see the Disney+ series give the ultimate form of validation to fans of the Disney-owned mothership franchise’s animated alley of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels: A live-action version of perennial favorite Ahsoka Tano! Rosario Dawson has been cast to play Ahsoka on The Mandalorian Season 2, according to Slashfilm. The move, which will be the first formal migration of a major character from the animated sphere to the live-action arena (since Boba Fett, anyway), is certainly exciting and unprecedented in the modern era....

Obsidian Entertainment’s The Outer Worlds sends players on an adventure through space that is filled with tons of character interaction and plenty of action. Combat in The Outer Worlds should be familiar to fans of the Fallout franchise, but Obsidian puts enough twists on the formula to make it feel new. One way that The Outer Worlds tries to spin its combat in fun ways is through Science Weapons. These are wholly unique guns that are usually less about damage and more about the manipulation of enemies....

Gun Interactive has revealed more details about its take on The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, a new asymmetrical horror game set to release later this year. A new behind-the-scenes video focuses on the motion-capture process, and we’re also given a peek at the new single Tragic from Remains, a companion album to the game’s official soundtrack. “Shot on location at The House of Moves in Los Angeles, the video diary gives horror fans a fascinating window into the method of mo-cap, illustrating some of the key choreography and physical performance that goes into animating character movements,” Gun explains....
