New research suggests that warnings for games with loot box-style mechanics are inconsistent and unreliable. Conducted by Leon Y Xiao in co-operation with universities in Denmark, London and the US, the study examines a randomised selection of smartphone games which have loot boxes and are available to download from the Google Play Store. The study aimed to find out how consistent loot box presence warnings are across PEGI and the ERSB, as well as the consistency of age ratings on the Google Play Store as overseen by the IARC....

Tearaway Unfolded is coming to PS4 on September 11, Sony has announced. That’s just two weeks after Sony’s other big PS4 exclusive Until Dawn goes on sale. The PS4 port of 2013’s top PS Vita game features enhanced 1080p/60fps graphics and an extended storyline, while cramming in additional features that take advantage of the DualShock 4’s functionality. Multiple versions of the game will be available, too, including the Tearaway Unfolded: Special Edition, which includes the full game, alternate cover art and the Torn Away Pack containing papercraft costumes inspired by characters from LittleBigPlanet, God of War, inFamous, The Last of Us and Killzone; and The Messenger Edition, which includes a “rare and extremely adorable” Atoi plushie....

An “intimate mystery” following the twins Alyson and Tyler, Tell Me Why sees the two characters reuniting after years apart, and returning to their childhood home in Delos Crossing, Alaska. Alyson and Tyler will have “different memories of key events” and players must choose who they believe. “Ultimately, the choices players make determine the strength of the twins’ bond—and the future course of their lives,” said game director Florent Guillaume. Stoic Studio has confirmed on Twitter that its narrative-heavy Viking drama The Banner Saga will be released for Nintendo Switch on May 17. Superb dungeon crawler The Bard’s Tale 4 is getting overhauled by way of a new Director’s Cut version of the game, developer inXile has announced.
