Halloween has arrived in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Warzone. The Haunting event has introduced some new games modes, spooky cosmetics and more. In addition, the update has seen the rollout of a new submachine gun. You can unlock the LAPA by completing a set of in-game challenges, or by purchasing a variant from the in-game store. Once you begin leveling the gun up, you’ll start to unlock the attachments you need to make a strong LAPA class in Warzone....

Skybound Entertainment, the company co-founded by The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, has announced that it has entered into a partnership with Glen Schofield’s Striking Distance Studios to help bring The Callisto Protocol to PCs and consoles next year. The survival horror title was first revealed during last year’s The Game Awards ceremony, and sees some of the original creators of EA’s Dead Space franchise return to space-set survival horror as it tasks players with escaping the mysterious Black Iron Prison and unravelling the mysteries on Jupiter’s dead moon of Callisto in the year 2320....

“Unreal. Absolutely unreal.” That’s how Wren Brier and Tim Dawson, the creators of Unpacking, described their double win at the BAFTA Games to me last week. So shocked were they at taking home gongs for Narrative and the public voted Game of the Year the couple didn’t even have a speech prepared. Unpacking’s success has seen the indie “zen puzzle game” beat a number of big AAA games to several awards (not least Eurogamer’s own Game of the Year last year), and find itself cast as a gentle, queer David to the Goliaths of Returnal, It Takes Two, and Metroid Dread....

Ubisoft has confirmed that Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 is indeed getting an open beta. The teaser will be open to PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One players, and runs March 1-4. At this point that’s about all we know, sadly, as Ubisoft hasn’t confirmed any specific details on what we can expect to see in the open beta. Regardless, the teaser isn’t that far away from the game’s full launch, with The Division 2 hitting stores on March 15....

The Dungeon of Naheulbeuk: The Amulet of Chaos is a new turn-based tactical RPG from developer Artefacts Studio and publisher Dear Villagers. It’s based on a fan-made audio and comic book web series that’s available for free. However, the entire thing’s in French and, as far as I know, no complete translations to other languages exist. Still, the game borrows several tropes from fantasy and pop culture, and you’re bound to have a few laughs and chuckles along the way....

Team 17 has announced that the sequel to the popular sandbox prison-escape game The Escapists will be launching on August 22. The Escapists 2 is taking the experience even further, with drop in/drop out play for up to four players in online or local play. Escaping prison obviously won’t be easy. You have to work around prison schedules and avoid the guards, craft weapons and tools, engage in prison brawls, and perform ‘favours’ for your fellow inmates, all while looking for escape routes....

Blizzard has announced that the first alpha test for Diablo II: Resurrected is set to begin this weekend. On Friday, a select number of chosen damned will play the remastered classic for the first time. The technical alpha will include only a handful of characters to play and environments to scour. But still, it’s Diablo II remastered, so anything should be more than welcome. Invites to the alpha begin this week....

If you watched an action, sci-fi, or horror movie in the 1980s, there was a good chance it was produced by Cannon Films. The studio — perhaps the last great home of B-movie and exploitation classics — was founded in 1967 but hit its apex between 1979 and 1987, releasing scores of films that (mostly) no one would call high cinema but which delivered thrills, chills and plenty of blood, action, and fire on a budget....

Nintendo has announced that combined sales of the NES and SNES Classic Edition have surpassed 10 million worldwide. The company announced the figure during its financial report for Q2 2019, where it also revealed that Switch has sold over 22 million units to date. The 10 million figure is certainly impressive, and definitely proves that nostalgia for classic consoles is still alive and well. Sony obviously agrees too, as it’s releasing the PlayStation Classic this winter complete with 20 built-in games....

The Outer Worlds has been out for a bit now so a few things have become quite clear. One, living in a corporation controlled universe would be awful! Like, horribly soul-crushingly awful. And two, the companions in this game are the best they’ve ever been in an Obsidian game. We don’t just mean damage-wise either, these are some of Obsidian’s best-written characters of all time. But, their true strengths and weaknesses only become clear after finishing their side-quests and using them for quite a while....

Still, with Babcock back in the main, a lot of viral vampire horror, and one pissed off Jonas, the second half of the season is off to a good start, even if “I Want to Know What You Taste Like” isn’t the best of the lot....

I’ve had a soft spot for Inkle ever since playing Sorcery! on my old banger of an iPhone many years ago, and I’ve been delighted by every single game it has made since. Games like 80 Days, Heaven’s Vault, the 2022 BAFTA-nominated Overboard! and Pendragon - games that wield words masterfully. And I cannot wait for the studio’s new game A Highland Song that was revealed properly only a few weeks ago....

It’s hard to argue that the Witcher book series wasn’t all that popular outside its native Poland before the games were released. The Witcher games, especially Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, saw a huge surge in popularity for the book series and brought it to the forefront of the fantasy genre. The games do a wonderful job of bringing the Geralt from the books to life, but as with any kind of adaptation/sequel, there are going to be some differences....

Summer Game Fest, the games show hosted by Geoff Keighley, will broadcast its live show on June 9th, at 19:00 UK time. Keighley tweeted the news, saying, “We Have a Date! Sunless Sea, the Kickstarter-funded nautical adventurer from developer Failbetter Games, will make its PlayStation 4 debut at some point this year. The game originally arrived on PC back in 2015 and is set within the confines of the Fallen London universe, a browser game also developed by Failbetter. Here, the entirety of Victorian-era London has vanished underground and is now surrounded by a massive subterranean ocean known as the Unterzee....
