When not putting in prank easter eggs, they were creating a game that scratched an itch many fans of games like the Fallout series had felt for a long time. The skill with which the team turned out The Outer Worlds is hardly surprising, considering the pedigree of the studio as a whole and the developers who comprise it....

It looks like the studio behind Sonic Mania has assisted Sega with Sonic Origins. Headcannon, the developer of Sonic Mania officially confirmed its involvement in a tweet yesterday. Interestingly, the team seems to only have helped re-create Sonic 3 & Knuckles for the collection. It’s also worth mentioning that it has worked on other Sonic installments in the past. Headcannon performed the pre-production of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and Sonic CD....

Capcom has dropped a bunch of info on what fighting fans can expect in Season 5 of Street Fighter V when it drops later this month, including a surprise new character and more. The Season will add six new characters to the game’s ever-expanding roster, including the previously announced returns of Dan Hibiki, Street Fighter Alpha’s Rose and surprise new character Eleven. Dan will have access to his ‘Haoh Gadoken’ as his first V-Trigger move and benefit from powered up fireballs and uppercuts for his second....

Sega’s much-loved beat-’em-up series Streets of Rage is officially returning with a brand new instalment, publisher Dotemu has announced. Streets of Rage 4 is being developed by Lizardcube and Guard Crush Games, and will be a full continuation of the gloriously 90-flavoured fighting franchise, which was last seen in 1994 on the Sega Mega Drive. Players are going to get a brand new storyline featuring returning heroes Axel Stone and Blaze Fielding (Axel has grown a beard while Blaze doesn’t seem to have aged at all) plus all-new gameplay mechanics, stages, and vibrant, hand-drawn visuals....

The Nintendo Labo VR sets were sold on the promise of small, VR experiences that could be had with some cardboard and the Nintendo Switch. The Labo VR sets are not meant to compete with the likes of Oculus Rift or PlayStation VR, but there is a difference in price that cannot be ignored, with the Labo VR equivalent being several hundred dollars cheaper than the alternatives on the market....

OtherSide Entertainment is making System Shock 3, but the future of the game appears to be uncertain as reports claim that the company has sacked its development team (via VGC). The System Shock 3 writer and director, design director, senior designer, lead programmer, QA lead, senior environment artist and others have changed their LinkedIn profiles to show they no longer work for OtherSide Entertainment. It is worrying to lose that many people in the past five months, and a former community manager was able to confirm that these people had been let go by the company....

Only a few days after Beau Young Prince’s cryptic Twitter reply sent The Sims 4 fans into a frenzy, Target’s Merchandise Database may have confirmed a November release date for a University-themed expansion pack for The Sims 4. On September 13, Twitter user and Target retail employee @Christophuck tweeted out a photo showing off an internal listing of a product called “Sims 4 Ep 8 Discover University” with November 15 set as its street (release) date....

The latest Nvidia graphics powerhouse to emerge from the manufacturer will be the GeForce GFX Titan. Seemingly caring little for the Titans’ unfortunate role in Greek mythology, Nvidia has declared it “the fastest GPU on the planet” (until someone announces the ‘Zeus’ GPU, I guess.) As the year and the decade come to a close, it’s time to take a look back and celebrate the many wonderful games that have come out. The Xbox One has been the primary console of the decade for Microsoft, taking up the majority of the time, but Microsoft Studios have released their fair share of excellent games exclusively for the Xbox platform. The 2010s encapsulate the last couple years of the Xbox 360’s life cycle as well as the Xbox One’s, with many great titles between the two....

While sales bare little correlation with quality, popularity should not be outright dismissed. At the end of the day, publishers exist to make money, so studios are going to follow trends that allow for the largest profit margin. Besides offering about as much depth as a paper cup, the vast majority of mobile games are mediocre garbage riddled with anti-consumerism practices that view players as nothing more than sentient ATMs. These projects may not earn a mention on any best of the year lists, but they are clearly popular enough to motivate developers to try and mimic their formula....

The Final Fantasy series has long been touted as one of the best JRPG series of all time, and for good reason. Flying mixes with a lot of different other types, so it can be very versatile for those who want to make an all-Flying-type team. Flying Pokemon are great because they are immune to Ground-type moves. That means Earthquake, a very common competitive move, does not touch them. A lot of them can also learn Roost, which is great for healing. However, they have to be careful of their weaknesses: Electric, Rock, and Steel-Type moves are super effective on Flying-Types....
