With their recent independence, the Finnish studio put out Control, a supernatural thriller starring Courtney Hope, Sean Durrie, and James McCaffrey. The game has been getting universal praise, and for the right reasons. The Last of Us 2 is keeping fans waiting since it and many other games were delayed last October, but that has not stopped many super fans from digging through what is available and formulating ideas about the game. One such idea is that the new faction of human enemies in the upcoming game differ greatly from enemies from the previous game in a way that may be detrimental to the story: they seem far too easy to hate....

Publisher Nacon has revealed some of the games that will be appearing at its Nacon Connect show, scheduled to kick off tomorrow evening. The event will showcase several upcoming games from the publisher, including new looks at The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, Vampire the Masquerade – Swansong and Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown. There’s also a promised peek at Blood Bowl 3 and Steelrising, and the publisher has also said that there’ll be three exclusive reveals, including entirely new games, during the show....

Combat in The Surge was one of its strongest points. Mind, it was one of the only strong points in Deck13’s sci-fi slice-em-up RPG. Regardless, the limb-severing loot mechanic was one of its standout features. The Survivalists is an adventure sandbox offering from Team 17, the makers of The Escapists games. You can expect a bit of lighthearted humor and cartoony design, mixed with Minecraft mechanics (crafting and building) and a bit of Don’t Starve (survival on a deserted island). While enjoyable in short bursts, The Survivalists did present several issues and problems that made the experience quite tedious from time to time. All by myself The moment you start your playthrough in The Survivalists, you’ll find yourself on the aforementioned deserted island....

The Witcher series from is extremely popular, and thanks to the Netflix series that Henry Cavill stars in, it’s likely that the popularity of the games is only going to increase exponentially from here. While Geralt is the star of the series (and for good reason since his gruff mannerisms and training at Kaer Morhen serve to make him quite the capable protagonist) he wouldn’t be nearly as captivating as he is without the help of some sorceresses who help him on his journey....

The story of Hotel Barcelona, a collaboration between fellow video game auteurs each working under a nom de guerre, is as quirky as its creators are eccentric. Virtually nothing is known about the title beyond a few administrative details—and even those are a little convoluted. There are so many classic games in the Mario canon that very few can be short-listed as being a viable candidate for the best game in the series. Super Mario Bros. 3, however, is one of those games. Out of all the 2D Mario games, it arguably has the best level design and pacing, taking place across eight distinct worlds with different themes, power-ups, and enemies to contend with. Not only was it lauded by critics upon release, it became a fan favorite and one of those games that people return to again and again....

Super Smash Bros. has a very firm grasp on its genre. We struggle to call it a fighting game, as it doesn’t really follow the technical structure of one. That’s not to say that Smash can’t be technical. One trip to the Super Smash Bros. subreddit would shoot down that notion. But Smash’s unique objective, knocking an opponent off-stage instead of depleting a life bar, puts it in a class all its own....
