Zenimax Online Studios has finally announced the latest chapter for The Elder Scrolls Online during the Xbox & Bethesda Developer Direct showcase. The upcoming installment will be entitled Necrom and has been dubbed by studio head Matt Firor as “one of the best updates to the game ever.” The video exhibited during the showcase gave fans a preview of one of the most requested features in ESO: a new playable class called The Arcanist....

Secrets and lies form a huge part of The Farewell, the new film from writer-director Lulu Wang. In particular, it’s about the lies we tell the people we love to avoid hurting their feelings. For instance, Chinese-American writer Billi (Awkwafina) is avoiding telling her family that she hasn’t won a prestigious fellowship and she’s facing eviction from her New York apartment. But when Billi discovers that her grandmother Nai Nai (Zhao Shuzhen) has been diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, she’s outraged by her family’s choice: in keeping with longstanding cultural traditions, Nai Nai’s adult children decide not to tell their beloved matriarch that she’s got about three weeks left to live....

The God of War release date has been spotted in the wild again, this time on the website for a Portuguese retailer (via Resetera). According to the site, Kratos’ next claret-drenched outing will ship on March 22, which is music to our ears as that also happens to be the same date that leaked on the PlayStation Store last month. There’s not much else to go on right now, but it’s worth mentioning that according to the original post on the forums, this retailer apparently only posts up releases dates when they are the real deal....

The brand new Warcraft TV Spot trailer is out, featuring war, magic, flying stuff and more. Warcraft is from Moon and Source Code director Duncan Jones and will launch June 3 in the Uk. The color blue is incredibly potent within Magic: The Gathering. Excelling at drawing additional cards and playing spells on opponents’ turns, blue decks are incredibly powerful within “Eternal” formats such as Legacy, Modern, Pauper, and Commander. However, while blue can perform in quite impressive fashion within the Commander format, across the game’s history, blue has received numerous commanders that are far from stellar. Sony revealed this week that it’s revamping the PlayStation Plus service. There will be three separate tiers, with the streaming service PlayStation Now getting rolled in. But it’ll cost a premium price. It’s available in the new highest-tier option, which will grant customers the ability to not only play titles natively on their PlayStation console, but also access to certain games via cloud streaming on PC. Obsidian Entertainment has announced that space-faring RPG The Outer Worlds will be getting its second and final expansion in the form of The Outer Worlds: Murder on Eridanos next week. In this expansion, you’ll be tasked with solving the murder of Halcyon Helen, an actress who, as the title implies, has been found dead on the planet of Eridanos. To solve the mystery, you’ll have to explore the luxury tourist destination run by the Rizzo corporation, and interview characters such as Helen’s former co-star Spencer Woolrich and tossball player Black Hole Bertie....

I want to say something about The Outer Worlds right from the off: it’s a good game. It’s a flawed game, and one that lacks some inspiration, but it’s still a good game. When I’m complaining about the combat or the user interface, do bear that in mind. Also, I need to apologize because I’m going to endlessly compare The Outer Worlds to Bethesda’s Fallout games. In large part, that’s because it wears its inspirations from that series on its sleeve....

There is something quintessentially optimistic about the rolling of a river and the drift of the sea. It represents endless possibility, which could be argued is a distinctly American trait. Author Samuel Clemens (under a certain nom de plume) tapped into that with his transcendentalist novel that reached for sunny aspirations, even while exposing the hypocritical rot beneath. I imagine he’d get a kick out of The Peanut Butter Falcon too, an infinitely sweet indie that wears its Mark Twain inspiration on its sleeve just as readily as it does the cardboard box that makes up its wrestling gear....

An interesting infographic posted on Reddit painted a stunning picture of the dominance of Nintendo’s Pokémon franchise. Since the release of Pokémon Red/Blue on the original Game Boy in 1996, the franchise as a whole has earned three times more than the Super Mario franchise and more than the next five franchises combined. The Waylanders just received a future content roadmap for its Steam Early Access period. Players can expect weekly updates that alternate between new content and gameplay improvements through the month of August. Weeks one, three, five, and seven will deliver major bug fixes, improve cinematics and audio, add a crafting system, and improve gameplay. Weeks two, four, and six will add companion loyalty quests, new story content, and other features. There will also be some overlap that will result in weekly lore and codex additions, plus other features....

One might say that Howard the Duck is one of the most (unfairly) maligned films of the 1980s. As something of a Duckologist myself, I’d like to point out that the film is definitely stranger and funnier than you probably remember. So why was it such a bomb? Well, its flirtation with beastiality aside, I think one of the main reasons Howard the Duck flopped when it was released back on August 1, 1986, was that the marketing campaign was terrible....

Indie developer Noisy Valley Studios is working on a new title called Summerford that looks to satisfy your need for a new Silent Hill game. Summerford tells the story of a young woman named Sam who is described as an urban explorer. It seems that Sam gets separated from her friends and eventually wanders into what certainly seems to be an awful situation involving a town that once suffered from a nuclear disaster....

Twitch’s favorite streamer with Tourette syndrome, Sweet Anita, “ticked” the n-word during a livestream this weekend, resulting in a large wave of criticism from Redditors. Most of the anger seemed to be misplaced, however, as not everyone demonstrated a thorough education regarding the nature and severity of certain cases of TS. Anita decided to comment on the matter, choosing to focus largely on the positive impact from the Reddit debacle – namely the fact that people were having open discussion about the nature of TS....

Nintendo Switch versions of Vampyr and Call of Cthulhu will be released later this year, publisher Focus Home Interactive has announced. Vampyr was developed by Dontnod Entertainment and launched for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One last June. The game sold over a million copies, and its success has resulted in Dontnod and Focus Home renewing their partnership for an exciting new project. It’s actually a pretty decent action-adventure romp, and the London backdrop oozes atmosphere....

As we move on from the dumpster fire that was 2020 and into 2021, some game developers are taking time to look forward. In particular, the talented folks at Koei Tecmo all got together to share their thoughts on what next year holds in store for games. With Dying Light 2’s long-awaited release looming, developer Techland has spoken up about its post-launch content plans, giving players its “guarantee” it’ll continue supporting the game for at least five years after its arrival. Many would argue it was the original Dying Light’s extensive programme of post-launch content that proved the greatest contributor to its enormous success - Techland is still supporting the game with a mixture of paid and free content some seven years after its initial release - and the studio looks set to follow the same long-tail formula for its imminent sequel....
