Nintendo of Japan has released the new worldwide sales figures for the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo 3DS line of handheld consoles. It seems that Nintendo’s earlier financial projections were on point, as the Switch has sold almost twenty million units around the world. Sony’s Uncharted movie has hired the latest in a long line of directors, with 10 Cloverfield Lane’s Dan Trachtenberg set to helm the action-adventure flick based on Naughty Dog’s hit PlayStation-exclusive franchise. The news comes not long after the departure of Shawn Levy, who jumped ship to work on Free Guy. Trachtenberg coming on board is obviously good news, although we wouldn’t get too excited yet as the project has been in development hell for nearly a decade....

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings will be available to download for free on Xbox 360 until February 5, Microsoft has announced. The game comes in addition to this month’s free Games With Gold line-up, and does not appear to require an Xbox Live Gold account to download. It was previously released as a free Games With Gold title last year. To download it for free, you’ll need to live in the UK, US, Canada, France or Germany....

Blitzchung, the professional Hearthstone player who was suspended by Blizzard following him professing pro-Hong Kong sentiment during an official broadcast, has written a response. The response comes a day after Blizzard issued an official statement regarding the situation which reduced Blitzchung’s suspension to six months and reinstated his tournament winnings. In his response, Blitzchung acknowledges his fault but questions the severity of his punishment. Blitchung’s statement, which he posted to Twitter, begins with him offering his gratitude to Blizzard for reconsidering their initial decision....

A new piece of DLC for Tearaway Unfolded that lets players dress up as Santa, Snowman, Elf or Reindeer will be available to download on PS4 later today, Sony has announced. The 79p ‘Holiday DLC Pack’ includes the four festive costumes plus seven new decorations, including a Christmas tree, Christmas Pudding, candy cane, stocking, holly leaf ivy leaf, wreath and a Christmas present. Temtem has only been out for a little over a month now, but fans are already curious where developer Crema plans to take its massively multiplayer creature-collecting game from here. To that end, Crema released a series of roadmaps– both short-term and longer-term– detailing plans that the studio has for Temtem in the coming year. In yet another move to expand its reach in the gaming space, Tencent has invested heavily in Madrid-based studio Tequila Works, making the Chinese giant the majority shareholder. As announced by the studio, the additional funds will be used to elevate the games being developed to a new level. A hero’s weapon of choice is an important one. It defines them and speaks on their behalf before friends and enemies even meet them. Video game characters are no exception. Faced with insurmountable tasks and nefarious villains, wielding a sword is a statement of purpose and a reason for existing. If there’s one thing players can gather from it: the bigger the sword, the harder they fall. It doesn’t matter what genre they come from....

Turn-based strategy games aren’t a super popular genre. Of course, there are different sub-genres within the wider umbrella of the “turn-based strategy game,” but for the most part, these games don’t typically gain a lot of traction.
