The Switch is well into its sixth year, somehow, and despite some stiff competition from the Steam Deck recently it hasn’t lost its lustre nor its position by my side wherever I go: maybe it’s something to do with the immense library I’ve got on mine at this point, filled to the brim with shmups of all sizes in what’s long been a speciality of the system. Once it was the novelty of having these things on the go, plus the ease of playing vertical scrolling shooting games as intended in ’tate’ mode with the screen flipped (and without worrying about permanent damage like I used to when pushing a chunky old CRT on its side to play Ikaruga as Treasure intended)....

Triss of The Witcher is a beautiful and complex character, a sorceress who ends up as one of Geralt’s love interests — requited or unrequited, depending on the paths you take, particularly in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The chestnut haired woman from the book has become a flaming redhead with some beautifully designed video game outfits, and from that, some amazing cosplays have been born — both of her original outfits and some DLC content....

Rockstar Games has polished off the latest update for Grand Theft Auto Online, with Sumo (Remix) leading the charge. Things have been switched up a bit, though. The safe mode now moves around after the timer has expired, and also shrinks each time. As such, it’s now a lot harder to avoid burning to a crisp. It’s worth the effort though, as jumping into any one of the seven arenas yields double GTA$ and RP....

Considered by many to be the ultimate video game character, Mario no longer has much of an air of mystery about him. In the arcade game where Mario first appeared called Donkey Kong, Mario was simply known as “Jumpman.” (Because jumping was all he could really do.) As more games have been released with Mario as the star, we have all gotten to know our favorite overall-ed plumber a little better....

Nintendo has released a surprise update to 2018’s Super Mario Party, which finally brings online multiplayer to the game’s board-based modes. As the update’s patch notes on the Nintendo of America website note, this patch adds online play to Mario Party, Partner Party and Free Play (Minigames). It also now supports the Nintendo Switch’s recently-added Invite Friend feature, and allows you to play these modes in either Friend Match where you play with people on your Friends List or Private Game where you can play with anyone using passwords....

TwitchCon 2019 is well underway in San Diego, California, showcasing all the best that Twitch has to offer. Some of the website’s top streamers have come together this weekend to compete in the Twitch Rivals portion of the event. The League of Legends tournament includes two showmatches, the first of which pitting Europe’s favorite streamers against those of North America. Each region’s representatives were among those who competed in the Road to TwitchCon event earlier this month....

Valve’s shooter Team Fortress 2 is getting an official update, and it’s only been 10 years since it was released. In celebration ‘of a decade of dustbowls and gravel pits’, Valve has decided to show that it’s not forgotten its classic shooter by announcing a four day event called Jungle Inferno, and it begins today. This event features a mixture of maps and cosmetic content created by Valve and the game’s community....

Crema Games, developers for the wildly popular new monster-collecting game Temtem, have taken a hard stance against cheaters. Late last night, a ban-wave swept through Temtem’s servers. Over 900 accounts were handed permanent bans for either hacking the game client of repeatedly using exploits in order to cheat. These included speed hacks that vastly increased the game’s speed to make battles faster, or using bots to merely automate battles and capturing rare Temtem....

Fortnite’s Winter Royale might still be a week and a half away, but fans have already gotten to see two heavyweights go at it during the build-up. With all the hype surrounding the launch of Chapter 2 and now its affiliation with Star Wars, it feels like a long time since we got to see some real competitive Fortnite action. In all fairness, Epic went all out with the Fortnite World Cup earlier this year....

Some species of bugs in Grounded have their own personal places to hang out. The ants enjoy being near their tunnels, and spiders (gah) can be found by fences and the deep, dark corners of the Earth. Where evil dwells. Generally, only the most aggressive insects will try and pick a fight if you enter their territory. You can also go on a slaughter spree and return to your peaceful camp without much worry....

Usually, there’s a pretty good reason why a game doesn’t take off; server issues, clunky handling, or it’s just not that fun to play. This tends to give all the never-weres a bad name, but there are a few occasions that let a great game slide under the rug. This means you can get them for less than your top of the range ‘‘summer blockbuster’’ and not have to downgrade on quality....

DreamWorks Voltron Legendary Defender was a smash hit. The Voltron fanbase exploded in size, we got a new toyline, and new comics. How times have changed when it is money that ultimately does the talking. In the late 2000s, Electronic Arts obnoxiously turned down UFC president Dana White’s proposal for an EA Sports UFC video game, even going as far telling White it’s not a real sport. Which is somewhat ironic considering that EA made a couple of awful WCW wrestling games and the Toughman Contest games a few years back. After turning down the UFC’s proposal the series landed with THQ resulting in the well-received UFC Undisputed series....

This introduced a new campaign, the return of the classic map Shipment, and the continuation of the dark aether narrative in zombies. It is no secret that shotguns are extremely powerful in Vanguard.
