It was reported last week that Mass Effect: Andromeda’s anti-tamper security from Denuvo had been cracked in just ten days. According to DSOG, however, Andromeda had shipped with an older version of Denuvo, and one which had been cracked previously. Andromeda received a talked-up patch last Thursday. 1.05 fixed some technical bugs, as well as improving the widely-mocked facial animations, and tweaking eye shaders (which made a surprisingly huge difference). It also, very quietly, updated the Denuvo protection to the latest and greatest model....

While a large majority of The Matrix fans would put the first movie squarely at the top of the trilogy with no bother from its sequels, The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions do still have their cheerleaders. Cinematographer Bill Pope found himself dragging his pompoms after a gruelling back-to-back shoot on both, though, describing it as “mind numbing and soul numbing.” Pope, who had previously worked with The Matrix directors The Wachowskis on 1996’s critically acclaimed Bound before climbing aboard the pair’s groundbreaking sci-fi action trilogy, revealed the exhaustive nature of the Reloaded and Revolutions shoot in a new interview with Roger Deakins on the Team Deakins podcast (via Indiewire)....

It’s safe to say that Warner Bros. hasn’t quite perfected the formula for their DC superhero movies. Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman remains the only one to gain both critical and commercial success since they launched their superhero cinematic universe in earnest with 2013’s Man of Steel. The Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite gaming consoles have collectively sold over 15 million units, according to new internal data reports from Nintendo. Since the launch of the Switch in May 2017, Nintendo’s latest handheld-and-home console hybrid has done exceptionally well in sales. This crossing of the 15 million unit mark in the United States officially marks the Switch as the most popular and best-selling video game console for the past consecutive months, according to the NDP Group, a research company that tracks video game sales in the country....

Stronghold: Warlords has been given a release date at IGN’s Summer of Gaming event. Specifically, the fortress-building RTS will be available on September 29th. The news was delivered via a fairly sedate trailer going over the primary features of this entry into the long-running series. I say “fairly sedate”, but it still had crumbling walls, collapsing buildings, and people with flamethrowers, so there’s plenty of eye-candy to feast upon. Nintendo has now released its second trailer for the Super Mario Bros. Movie, giving us our best look yet at the upcoming animated film from Minions maker Illumination. The trailer showcases a good look at the film’s version of Princess Peach (voiced by Anya Tayor-Joy) while Chris Pratt’s Mario only gets a couple of lines of dialogue. Overall, it’s a fun glimpse at some familiar Mario locales and characters, translated for the big screen....

Yesterday EA took to the stage at the Credit Suisse 21st Annual Technology, Media & Telecom Conference where the subject of loot boxes and microtransactions was raised. Today it was Take-Two Interactive’s turn to answer questions. Take-Two president Karl Slatoff was on-hand to talk about the publisher’s work and touched on the latest loot box controversy sparked by Star Wars Battlefront 2. Unsurprisingly, Slatoff sits firmly in the same camp as ESA which does not deem loot boxes to be gambling....

Developer Riot Games has now issued a formal press release confirming that Teamfight Tactics (TFT) is now a permanent game mode in League of Legends that will be updated with regular patches, new champions, new sets, and ranked seasons. Although the game has been an unexpected success in terms of popularity and streaming, many were wondering if the game would get the official nod from Riot. Previously, a new game mode named Nexus Blitz had been canceled by Riot, but this new mode has been so successful that considering canceling it seemed ridiculous to observers....

Telltale Games has laid off a quarter of its workforce impacting 90 staff. The decision to make the cuts is part of the studios’ efforts to make the studio “more competitive as a developer and publisher of groundbreaking story-driven gaming experiences with an emphasis on high quality in the years ahead”. “Our industry has shifted in tremendous ways over the past few years,” said Telltale CEO Pete Hawley. “The realities of the environment we face moving forward demand we evolve, as well, reorienting our organization with a focus on delivering fewer, better games with a smaller team....

Jurassic Park, Wallace & Gromit, Poker Night 2, and many others are also no longer available. Their Steam store pages still exist, and you can still play/install them if you owned them beforehand. If you’re a prospective buyer, you’re out of luck — you won’t be able to buy them anymore....
