I did.” In last week’s episode review of The Affair, I referenced how the experiment that the show attempted with Sierra arguably would have worked a lot better if the episode was just a meditation on Joanie, her past, and her own fears as a mother. That saving grace isn’t applied to 505, but it’s exactly what happens in 506 and even though Joanie wasn’t present at all in the previous instalment, she’s the sole focus this time around....

This year’s installment of The Game Awards was jam-packed with announcement trailers. Final Fantasy VII Remake, Godfall, Gears Tactics, Warframe Empyrean, and other high-profile titles chose to show off new content during the ceremony. However, no announcement was greater — nor more worthy of memes — than Xbox Series X. The reveal trailer didn’t give us much, only a brief look at the console alongside a release date, but that was more than enough to fuel the internet’s meme-making machines....

Harrowstorms are extremely dangerous world events that are besieging the island of Icereach. It looks like The Escapists is ready to break free from the chains of a $17.99 USD price tag. This game about jailbreak and crime is now free to download through the Epic Games Store. Epic Games hands out a free game every week, with The Escapists this week and Europa Universalis IV free next week. The Escapists is a “prison sandbox experience” that puts you in the shoes of a criminal who landed themselves in prison — again....

Based on the series of novels of the same name by James S. A. Corey, The Expanse is set in a future where humanity has colonised the Solar System. It’s a space-based political conspiracy thriller, in which crime meets intergalactic tensions that threaten an already very fragile peace between nations. Children Of Men and Iron Man writing team Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby brought Corey’s novels to the small screen with great ambition and depth… which is probably why it got cancelled....

Nintendo has announced that it’ll be holding its first Nintendo Direct broadcast of 2022 tomorrow evening. As the official Nintendo UK Twitter account details, the broadcast will kick off at 10pm UK time. Viewers will be able to tune in via the official Nintendo YouTube channel for 40 minutes of info and footage. The upcoming The Last of Us HBO-produced TV series has offered us our first look at Joel and Ellie as the series enters production. The image was offered up as part of this year’s The Last of Us Day celebrations, which took place yesterday. While it only shows our main characters from behind, both figures are unmistakably Joel and Ellie surveying a crashed plane. The image was also re-posted by the show’s stars, Pedro Pascal (as Joel) and Bella Ramsey (as Ellie)....

Japanese developer Nippon Ichi has announced that it’s beavering away on a quirky platformer known as The Liar Princess and the Blind Prince for PS4, PS Vita, and Switch. The game is something of a bitter love story, and centres on a creature that disguises itself as a Princess in order to guide a blind Prince safely through a series of fairy tale-inspired locations. Its concept came about during an in-house brainstorming session at Nippon Ichi, in which employees all throw around ideas for a new game, with one guaranteed to get the green light....

Two days ago, CD Projekt Red announced that a new game in The Witcher franchise was in development. Not much was revealed outside of its graphics engine. However, the developer did offer a small tease: a half-covered medallion in the snow. At a glance, one could mistake it for the Wolf Medallion that hung from Geralt’s neck for years. However, closer inspection suggested otherwise. There was speculation that it was an updated version of the School of the Cat medallion, but that no longer appears to be the case....

Power Rangers Lost Galaxy was set to be a bold new era for the Power Rangers franchise. The Sims 4 will be rectifying the lacking number of non-white skin tones in the base game this fall, resulting from constructive criticism from the community. Pearson continued to state that the team is “blown away by the incredible craftsmanship of our mod community,” but that this ingenuity “does not absolve us from continuing to grow and improve as well.” As part of this, the game will see higher-quality iterations of existing skin tones and an increase in the number of skin tones available in The Sims 4 later this year....

Nintendo has filed an FCC listing for what appears to be a SNES controller for the Switch, sparking rumors that the iconic console’s classics are finally coming. The entertainment world is currently being flooded with remakes and remasters. It seems as if consumers love nothing more than a healthy hit of nostalgia, and we are very much a part of that group. Game developers have cottoned on to that, and it has made for a lot of hype in recent years....

First-person puzzle game The Talos Principle: Deluxe Edition will release on PS4 on October 13, publisher Devolver Digital has announced. The game will be available both physically and digitally for £34.99, and includes the original release plus its brand new expansion pack Road To Gehenna. The Talos Principle first released on PC in December last year and tasks players with stepping into the role of a sentient robot to explore a mysterious world....
