For the past few years, Dark Horse Comics has worked closely with Nintendo to release various art books from the Legend of Zelda series. Starting with Hyrule Historia, a total of four compendiums from the classic series have made their way over to western shores. A Super Mario encyclopedia soon followed, but Dark Horse has really outdone itself this time. Going on sale tomorrow for $49.99, The Art of Super Mario Odyssey will be a 368-page book packed to the brim with sketches, concept art, and tidbits about the iconic plumber’s Switch debut....

Pokémon has always had a special place in my heart. There’s something magical about raising this tiny magical creature into a loyal guardian, willing to lay down it’s life for your honor at your command. Well, that’s maybe over-selling it a bit, but that’s always how I imagined my Pokémon to be. But there was something else about the Pokémon universe, something beyond the mundanity of fire-breathing foxes or electric mice....

Over the weekend, independent developer Yager announced a new game. The studio behind Spec Ops: The Line is working now working on The Cycle. Billed as a “competitive quester,” everything about The Cycle seems like a far cry from The Line. According to Yager, The Cycle is a “match-based” first-person shooter. Players attempt to complete quests during matches, which take twenty minutes a pop. Interestingly, The Cycle places as much of an emphasis on social interaction as solid shooting....

There are few consoles that have defined the post-video game crash era as well as the Nintendo Game Boy. To this day, the Game Boy and its successor, the Game Boy Color, rank as the third best-selling consoles of all time. The alternate history presented in The Man in the High Castle in which the Nazis won World War II became all too real during a visit to the set of season 3 at this same time last year. In a massive rally scene in simulated Nazi-occupied New York City, housewives and businessmen in 50s-era garb and swastika armbands rubbed shoulders with Hitler youth and SS soldiers, all gathered to celebrate a new initiative within the American Reich that will be a big part of the new season, including a distinct shift in the power dynamic....

As Rock Band 4 releases, rumours abound that VideoGamer Sans Frontieres have taken delivery of a deadly new weapon, so Burns and Miller investigate. After the former pulls the latter out of the rubble of their old office. Featuring fabulous photo-mode footage of Avalanche’s Mad Max, as well as Rock Band 4 gameplay.

The eighth film in the Fast & Furious movie franchise will be called Fast 8, star Vin Diesel has announced. An Instagram post by the franchise’s leading man included an April 2017 date and title, alongside the tagline: “New Roads Ahead”. The text was imposed over the New York City skyline, which conflicts with earlier reports of a shoot in Cuba. “Universal Pictures is currently in the process of seeking approval from the United States and Cuban governments to explore shooting a portion of the next instalment of the ‘Fast & Furious’ series in Cuba,” a studio spokesperson said earlier this month....

Speedrunner CreeperHntr is pushing the boundaries of The Outer Worlds, having recently completed a speedrun in less than 12 minutes and 15 seconds, not counting loading screens. The Outer Worlds developers Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky sat down to provide commentary to the playthrough, relating it to their experiences in designing the game. Cain and Boyarsky praise CreeperHntr for his skill navigating the levels, guessing that he must have either played the game many times before or taken pathing hints from other speedruns....

With the upcoming North American release of the Sword & Shield series in the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG), some players are expressing understandable feelings of frustration at the news that the Fairy type, first introduced in the XY series, will no longer be supported. Future Pokémon cards that would have fallen within the Fairy type will now be represented as Psychic, but the decision overall feels like a mistake: the game should seek to maintain and add more types, not remove them....

The Sims series has always been a happy set of games, there’s no doubt about it. Even death is handled in a very humorous, family-friendly way. That being said, deaths of beloved Sims are often upsetting, and their demise can occur in the most unexpected of ways. However, it’s also not uncommon for players to intentionally kill their own Sims for a bit of sadistic fun, or just out of curiosity over what will happen to them....

On May 13, 1994 The Crow, based on the comic book by James O’Barr, was released. At the time, comics-based movies — the superhero variety or otherwise — were in a slump. After the initial excitement following the massive success of Tim Burton’s Batman in 1989, that series had taken a darker turn with 1992’s Batman Returns, and the corresponding dip in box office had Warner Bros. Pictures preparing a far more kid-friendly and garish Batman Forever for 1995....

So many of the original series’ episodes dealt with subject matter that no other TV show at the time would ever dare address. The Twilight Zone without some meditations on society, politics, and humanity just wouldn’t be The Twilight Zone. However, the original Twilight Zone excelled at two things that the new series has struggled with so far....

The producer on Super Mario Odyssey has said there’s a possibility the critically acclaimed adventure game may receive traditional downloadable content at some point in the future. Speaking with the latest issue of Game Informer (via GamingBolt), Yoshiaki Koizumi said that the team’s goal was to provide a bevy of content for players to tuck into from day one, but added regular DLC has not been ruled out. We’ve already seen some extra content released just last week in the shape of Luigi’s Balloon World, but it seems there could be more on the cards....

Super Mario Run, Nintendo’s first Super Mario game developer specifically for mobile devices, will launch in 151 countries and territories on December 15. The iPad and iPhone game will be free to download, offering players limited access to the game’s three modes. Players can choose to make a one-time payment of £7.99/$9.99 to enable unlimited access to all modes. Making the game simple to play on mobile devices, Mario runs forward on his own, with players tapping a single finger to jump over obstacles, avoid enemies, perform moves and more....

Supermarket Shriek delivered a shopping spin on kart racing when it released last year on Xbox Game Pass. The game was recently announced for PC and a Nintendo Switch port too, and those versions are right around the corner. Ahead of the Supermarket Shriek launch, developer Billy Goat Entertainment has created a demo for the ongoing Steam Game Festival. According to the team, the Supermarket Shriek demo is “full of chaotic levels to wreak havoc in,” providing a snapshot of the overall game....

Nintendo has taken its Switch Sports servers offline - and suspended save data backups - while it investigates an issue causing crashes in the game’s latest update. Switch Sports’ version 1.2.1 update launched earlier this week, aiming to further strengthen measures against what Nintendo called “disruptive behaviours” online, as well as pledging to suspend any online players violating its Community Guidelines. Punishable actions included “fraudulent behaviour such as save data manipulation....

Three years ago Terraria Otherworld was announced as an alt-dimension version of the original game and promised more roleplaying and strategic gameplay. Back in 2016 numerous statements were posted to say the game was still coming but it needed a lot of work to bring it up to scratch. Two years on and all the extra work has not managed to salvage the game. It’s now been announced that the game is being cancelled after it became clear that progress was going a lot slower than Re-Logic and 505/Pipeworks had hoped....
