Following the rather surprising announcement at E3 promising ‘a brand new Atari’ product, alongside a short teaser trailer, it’s been quite the wait to find out more information on the Ataribox, and finally we’ve got some — as well as the first images of the hardware. Somewhat surprisingly, Atari has announced that the Ataribox has ‘modern internal specs’ and will be delivering ‘current gaming content. Mind-blown. In an email newsletter to fans who’d registered on the Ataribox website following the original teaser, Atari says that its ‘objective was to create a new product that stays true to our heritage while appealing to both old and new fans of Atari’....

The John Lewis Christmas 2015 ad has launched. Man on the Moon is no doubt making people up and down the country shed a tear. The ad tells the story of a young girl called Lily. Many are familiar with the depiction of Gollum featured Peter Jackson’s acclaimed Lord of the Rings film trilogy, and the actor behind him, Andy Serkis, netted accolades, like a “Best Digital Acting Performance” award from the Broadcast Film Critics Association, for his performance. However, Daedalic Entertainment has apparently decided to buck this well-known character design for its upcoming Lord of the Rings: Gollum. The Witcher series was created by Andrzej Sapkowski in the late 1980s. When The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was first released, several quests would award you with a sword that was supposed to be amazing, but by the time you earned it, you probably had better. The most egregious of this was in the Brothers in Arms questline in Skellige, which ended with Crach an Craite bequeathing Geralt the sword Winter’s Blade. With Bandai Namco’s recent JRPG Tales of Arise achieving a certain level of popularity among fans, Japanese figure manufacturers are starting to set things in motion. Today Kotobukiya made a new figure portraying Rinwell available for pre-order. You can find her on AmiAmi for 13,800 yen, which translates approximately into $110. She will be released in October 2022, which definitely isn’t a bad lead time considering today’s extra-long standards. The scale is 1/8, so the figure isn’t massive, measuring about 205 mm in height....

Today SNK’s own Yasuyuki Oda was on stage at EVO 2022 to provide news about The King of Fighters XV and Samurai Shodown. Starting with The King of Fighters XV, the game is getting cross-platform gameplay. There is still some work to do in order to implement it, but SNK plans to have it ready sometime next year. On top of that, a new DLC season (Team Pass 3) has been confirmed to come down the line....

Bruce Straley, who co-directed 2013’s The Last of Us with Neil Druckmann, believes unionisation could be the answer to ensuring creators are recognised for their contributions to a series. This comes after Straley was not credited in HBO’s TV adaptation of the game, despite his key role in Naughty Dog’s critically acclaimed release. Speaking to the LA Times, Straley addressed this snub from the showrunners, calling it an “argument for unionisation”....

Sony has announced that it’s increasing the price for membership to its PlayStation Plus subscription service in Europe and the UK, which follows on from a price hike in North America last year. In an email going out to PS Plus members, Sony informed them that the service will now cost a bit more. From August 31, the price of PS Plus will increase to £49.99/ €59.99 annually. That’s a £10 increase on the current price of a yearly subscription....

The Quarry is the narrative-based horror and survival videogame by Supermassive Games. Due to its storyline, the clues and items serve quite pivotal to the game’s progression. As the players progress to uncover mysteries, they can find tarot cards around the Haccket’s Quarry. At the end of each chapter, you can take these cards to Eliza, a tarot card reader. There are 22 tarot cards and if you manage to collect them all, you get an achievement unlocked....

One favourite (and sometimes infuriating) feature of The Sims 3 that never made the leap to The Sims 4 was story progression - giving non-active Sims households the ability to make significant, autonomous life decisions in the background - but now, as part of a surprise addition in The Sims 4’s latest patch, that previously absent element has returned in a big way. EA first revealed it had started dabbling with story progression for The Sims 4 (a feature it’s now referring to as Neighbourhood Stories) last November, explaining there was “a lot we want to do” to bring more life to the world outside of active households....
