It’s been a while since we’ve heard about Deltarune. Coming from Undertale developer, Toby Fox, the game’s first chapter released way before things got weird: 2018. Since its surprise launch, Fox has been quietly plucking away on the next part of the game. Apropos to Fox, he surprised fans with a release date for Deltarune Chapter 2 following a celebration of Undertale‘s sixth anniversary. And it’s coming out tomorrow, September 17.
Development on Deltarune Chapter 2 has been slow for Fox. It was meant to come out last year, but in September 2020 Fox released a short update. Due to Deltarune’s more complex design compared to the 8-bit Undertale, things were taking longer. Fox also went into some detail on his disability involving “wrist and hand pain.” As a solo developer, Fox was behind every element of the game, from the writing to the music.
But now, one year later, Deltarune Chapter 2 is ready with a release date. Beyond a short teaser, not much about the game is known. If you’ve played the first chapter, you should already know what to expect, of course. It has been a while, though, so you might want to replay the first chapter to get an idea of what’s up. You’ll also want to make sure you still have your save file. If you don’t, then that’s okay according to the site: “As long as you generally remember what happened story-wise, you’ll be fine.” If you’re new to Deltarune, you can play the first chapter today for free. The download link is on its website.
