The newest titles in the Pokémon franchise, Sword and Shield, have been out for some time now, and fans have been overall positive on the game. Sure, World War 3 was almost launched before the games released, but after the titles actually came out, things are a bit more positive. However, there’s always room for improvement, and today we’re going to be going over ten things that could be improved in a hypothetical third version, Pokémon Gun. Let’s get into it!

10 More Customization Options

Sword and Shield give players the most customizability so far in the series. It’s got the most hairstyles, colors and styles in the series, and there are many makeup options for girls that allow you to switch up your look as well. There’s no reason that we couldn’t have more options in a third version. New styles, colors, makeup options, more eyebrow options (please), all of it! And of course, this goes hand in hand with another aspect of customization as well.

9 More Clothes

The Pokémon series really likes to pad out its clothing options in stores by listing seven different colors of the exact same shirt and calling it a day, that needs to end. Give us an actual color wheel to pick our own clothing, and give us more options to pick from. It would go a long way in really making our trainers really feel like us. Oh, and as a side note, let us wear other uniforms that we buy (or win) into actual matches. Why is this not a thing that we can do already?

8 Following Pokémon

Do you think that the Pokémon company knows that we’re never going to let this go? Because we’re literally never going to let this go.

Look, we already have walking animations for every Pokémon, why not just let us have ours in the overworld with us? If it’s an issue with the Wild Area, just don’t allow them to come out of their Pokéballs in that area of the map, nice and simple. We got this feature back in Let’s Go! so there is a chance that we’ll see it come back again. It’s a small feature, but it goes a long way in making the world feel like a more real and lived-in place.

7 New Areas

Sword and Shield went a long way in giving players new and diverse areas to explore, so it would lead players to believe that we would get even more of these areas in a third version. Places like Glimwood Tangle really stand out as beautiful areas in the Galar Region, and there’s plenty of room to add to the region. We could also get new Wild Area sections to explore and meet new Pokémon in, as the area was a fantastic part of Sword and Shield.

6 A Spruced Up Story

Sword and Shield don’t have a bad story, but there’s always room for improvement. One area that Game Freak could really catch up to the times with is with voice acting. Even if it is just for important cutscenes a la Breath of the Wild, it would help to make more of an impact in the story, Beyond that, there would obviously need to be changes in the story to make players want to run through the Galar Region again. This is something Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon didn’t do very well, as the big changes to the story didn’t come until late into the game, so it felt very samey in the beginning.

5 More Pokémon

In a game like Sword and Shield, we can always stand to have more Pokémon. A third version is a perfect place to do that. Maybe a few new Pokémon, and a whole lot of old favorites.

Old legendaries, old normal Pokémon, new creatures, new Galar forms, there’s room for everyone in Pokémon Gun! Bring ’em all in. We do have to catch them all, after all.

4 Mega Evolution

This probably won’t be a thing, but we can dream. Bring Mega Evolution back! Maybe it would really only be a postgame thing like in Sun and Moon, or it would only be allowed in areas that you can’t Dynamax, so anywhere that isn’t a gym. No matter how it would theoretically come back, it would be a welcomed return for sure, as it is one feature that fans were really missing with the launch of Sword and Shield.

3 New Characters

Sword and Shield has a great cast of characters on it hands, one of the best in a while. We can always have more, though. New characters are a perfect way to keep the story feeling fresh and interesting. It would help to make a third version really feel like its own game. Whether these characters would be friend or foe wouldn’t matter. As long as we’re getting new NPCs to interact with, we’re in for a good time. Maybe some minor league gyms to challenge?

2 More Side and Postgame Content

Once you finish up the main story of this third version, there should be more to do than in the base games, an actual postgame. There should also be side content for players to get into during the main story. Side content that isn’t centered on Curry. The Wild Area is great, sure, but it can’t completely replace all extra content in the games. Maybe Contests can finally make their grand return? Not the horrible Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire contests, though.

1 Quality Improvements

Finally, we can just make the games better here and there. Better attack animations, better character animations (no more stopping and turning every single direction), higher resolution textures, the game can use improvements just about everywhere. That’s not to say that it’s a bad game, of course. It’s just to say that there are many different areas of Sword and Shield that can be improved, so why not take advantage of that? It would go a long way to polish the titles up a bit more.
