Tale Games are based over in South Florida, and they’re flying to PAX WEST to show off their upcoming 2D title, Faeland.

Described as a “Metroidvania Action Adventure RPG” the game takes players into a fully explorable fantasy world, inspired by classic RPGs but with an added modern twist.

In this realm, humans have worked hard to establish peace, with dark forces and beasts kept away from their civilization by a safe margin. As our hero embarks on a journey of discovery to make new alliances and discover new places, he will unmask a plot that threatens the survival of the entire realm.

You can see glimpses of the classic style of the game in the trailer below, which was released for the title’s Kickstarter campaign.

Tale Games have promised us detailed pixel-art graphics, open-world exploration and an intricate dialogue and quest system. There are also different weapons to collect, puzzles to solve and skills to learn. You can even explore dungeons and engage in boss battles.

The team appears to have a focus on good old fashioned gameplay as they have made weapons work in different ways, armor upgradable and NPCs are interactive.

Faeland has been funded by Kickstarter, with the game going into full-time development after the campaign was successful. The team will now be hoping that RPG fans will engage with their title, which takes inspiration from games they loved.

Faeland was also featured on the Square Enix Collective, where it received an enormous 93% “yes” votes and some great feedback.

Visitors to PAX WEST will be able to see the team, who look set to bring a demo to the event, at booth #1801. They are part of the PAX Rising section which “showcases engaging games developed by smaller teams.”

For those who love to find out more about game development, the team also maintains a blog that offers a glimpse into the process of developing the title.

Those who wish to join the quest can also pre-order the game directly from Tale Games.  According to the studio, it will be available on Steam, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4.
