Michigan-based Renegades has just announced the new roster of their Call of Duty team. They did well in 2019, but the departure of two players has opened the door for some fresh talent to join the team.
Renegades won both the London and Anaheim CWL open events with a fantastic record of 12-2 in the grand finals. After the Miami amateur finals, team members Shockz and Louga both left the team to join the Paris Legion franchise. With their departure came the introduction of two young players, Crimzah and Pred, who’ve just turned 18.
In the Youtube announcement video, Renegades team owner Jonas Jerebko said," The recent growth of Call of Duty has been staggering. There couldn’t be a better time for our organization to award contracts to these talented players than now." He goes on to say, “The highly competitive nature and skills of these hard-working players, combined with Activision and Blizzard’s infrastructure of the game, are going to lead us to another tremendous year of esports success. We are honored to welcome them to Team Renegades.”
In addition to the young guns, Amer “Pred” Zulbeari and Kerrin " Crimzah" Turner, the team comprises of Lincoln " Fighta" Ferguson, Daniel “Swifty” Hickey, and Jayden " Setzy" Hewitt. There’s a great balance of youth and experience with the older players having over 20 years of esports experience between them, in contrast to younger players, who’ve just become eligible for the Pro Circuit.
2019 was a phenomenal year for Renegades with 16 event wins in the Oceanic region including local LAN events and international Opens qualifiers. With the new members, they’ve continued the winning streak with consecutive wins in the Australian GameBattle Challenger Series. The team is currently bootcamping overseas in preparation for the Call of Duty Inaugural Launch Weekend. It will be the first international event of 2020 and take place at the Minneapolis Armory in Minneapolis Minnesota.
The event will kick off the 2020 Call of Duty League and feature all 12 CDL franchises fighting it out for the top spot. Each match will be played as a best of five series with each team using five players. The game modes will be Hardpoint, Search & Destroy, and Domination. To make things more exciting teams will also be allowed to use mid-series substitutes, which is an esports first.
Renegades have a brilliant mix of exciting young talent and experienced older players to compete against some of the best players in the world. With such stiff competition, we’ll just have to wait and see how things unfold at the main event.
