Team Secret has qualified for the ESL One Los Angeles Dota 2 Major after cruising through the event’s European closed qualifier undefeated. The DreamLeague Season 13 Major champions will be joined by OG in the Los Angeles tournament, along with one final team from the region. ESL One Los Angeles is the third Major of the 2019-20 Dota Pro Circuit, boasting a $1 million prize pool and 15,000 DPC points.
Fresh off their Leipzig Major victory, Team Secret kicked off their ESL One Los Angeles closed qualifier run against OG.Seed. Michał “Nisha” Jankowski and Lasse “MATUMBAMAN” Urpalainen’s deadly duo powered the team to their first 2-0 win. Secret ended day one on top of Group A after taking on Vikin.gg, Ludwig “zai” Wåhlberg pushing the squad to two sub-thirty-minute victories.
Day two saw Secret face off against Team Nigma, MATUMBAMAN defeating his former teammates with another clean 2-0 series. The final group stage match pit Secret against Aggressive Mode, with Clement “Puppey” Ivanov and co. coming out victorious after a 40-minute brawl in game one. Secret continued their perfect record in game two, locking in their play-off spot with a 34-minute win.
In Group B, OG’s new roster began their own dominant group stage run. Continuing their open qualifier hot-streak, the multinational squad took 2-0 wins over Alliance and Ninjas in Pyjamas on day one. Their good form continued on day two, taking another clean sweep over Singularity before trading maps with Team Liquid. With only one map lost, OG took Group B’s top seed.
The first match of the play-offs saw Team Secret take on Ninjas in Pyjamas. Secret continued their strong run of form, rolling over NiP in another 2-0 series. With 32-minute and 22-minute game wins, Secret secured their spot in the ESL One Los Angeles Major.
OG took on Aggressive Mode on the other side of the play-off bracket, Sumail “SumaiL” Hassan pushing the team to a game one victory. Topias “Topson” Taavitsainen and Yeik “MidOne” Nai Zheng brought their own fight in game two, guaranteeing OG’s Los Angeles appearance with a 2-0 series victory.
One more team from the European region will advance through the closed qualifier. Nigma, Team Liquid, and Alliance will next compete in the StarLadder ImbaTV Minor in Kiev, Ukraine, beginning on March 3rd. ESL One Los Angeles is set to begin on March 15th, with $1 million and 15,000 Dota Pro Circuit points on offer.
