The first NBA 2K League European Invitational has come and gone, having taken place at the Gfinity Arena in London.
The event kicked off on December 13 and culminated the following day, facilitating over two days of gameplay and featuring 20 players from Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Spain, Turkey, and the UK.
Competitors were put through a double-elimination tournament to decide who became eligible for the 2020 NBA 2K League Draft. And Team YKTV (You Know The Vibes) walked away with the big win, going on a four-game winning streak to tie things up and ensure victory.
The outfit was led by point guard Marcel “MGoCrzy” Stohl of Germany, who scored 15 of the team’s 18 points in the first quarter of the final en route to a 28-point, 10 assist tally to fire YKTV to a 64-45 win over team Park Boys.
MGoCrzy was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player and, by virtue of that, is now eligible for the 2020 NBA 2K League Draft.
“The tournament was crazy. The event itself being the first-ever European Invitational was an amazing feeling," he said after his successful outing. “We had a lot of talent here. The competition was super dope. I’m just happy to have won.”
The other Draft-eligible players will be announced at a later date but the league notes that players will need to pass a background check in order to be eligible.
It’s pretty cool that European players are now able to be drafted and it should only serve to make things more competitive in the 2K League. Perhaps we will soon have gaming equivalents of NBA greats hailing from Europe such as Dirk Nowitzki and Pau Gasol. Who knows? It might be a thing - but just as possibly, it might not.
In any case, TheGamer would like to congratulate the winners, Team YKTV, as well as MVP MGoCrzy. Good going!
