Breeding in Temtem just got a lot harder thanks to an increase in breeding gear prices.

Temtem are like Pokémon, only not. And just like in Pokémon, they can breed. Only breeding doesn’t work quite the same way.

You still need on male and one female Temtem in order for the magic to happen. You also need to have Temtem that are at least of the same type (ie. only Water-types can breed with other Water-types). However, here’s where things diverge.

In Pokémon, breeding is a long and arduous process fraught with random numbers, and thus, random results. That’s why breeding in Pokémon can take a long time. But in Temtem, you can take out the randomness by using certain items called DNA Strands.

DNA Strands basically ensure that the stats you want transfer from the parents to the child. These DNA Strands can be purchased at various stores for different prices, depending on the quality level of the DNA Strand. Some Strands just transfer one stat, but others transfer two stats. Using a combination of these Strands, you can eventually create a theoretically perfect Temtem with maximum SVs.

Those DNA Strands used to cost $300 for the basic variety and $1,000 for the upgrade kind that transfer two stats. However, developer Crema Games have boosted the prices for these items by quite a bit.

The cost of a basic Hardening DNA Strand, for example, now costs $1,000, whereas the cost of an upgraded Vigor DNA Strand (that transfers both HP and Stamina) now costs $5,000.

Temtem players have generally met the sudden and unexpected boost in prices unfavorably. Many players had only just recently gotten to the point where they felt they could start breeding and to suddenly have those important DNA Strands cost up to fives times as they used to certainly must feel like a drag.

Some players are even arguing that boosting breeding prices to this level will limit competitive Temtem play to serious, dedicated players that can spend the time cash required to create high-stat Temtem. Casual players just won’t be able to accrue the resources necessary to create high-level, competitive Temtem.

Crema has said that the prices for Temtem breeding were too low, necessitating an increase for the game to remained balance. They’ve certainly taken note of the outcry, and have said they’ll adjust prices again if the game becomes too unbalanced in the other direction.

Temtem is still in early access, so changes are going to be frequent at this stage.
