Honestly, there are a lot of bad superhero games out there. It sort of shares the same curse as games based on films. However, there are some gems out there. One of the quickest ways to get a glimpse of what people think of games is through Metacritic, which posts reviews both from everyday gamers and professional critics.
We decided to list the ten best superhero games based on Metacritic scores. As for our definition of a superhero, we decided to go with already licensed characters such as characters from the Marvel and DC universe.
10 Marvel’s Spider-Man (Score: 87)
This PlayStation 4 exclusive game out in 2018, making it one of the most recently made games on this list. Fans and critics alike have agreed that a ton of love went into this game. You are an experienced Peter Parker in New York City, and it gives you the feel of an open world that is a ton of fun to explore. The web slinging and combat mechanics are very comfortable and its very exciting to find all the side-quests hidden around New York City.
9 Batman: Arkham Knight (Score 87)
You are about to learn that Batman is the king of video game superheroes. He is all over this list. This particular game came out in 2015 for the PS4, PC, and Xbox One. It was the final game to a series by Rocksteady Studios. Critics loved this game, calling it a “love letter” to Batman fans and some even said that it was the best entry of the series. You get to deal with different big Batman enemies such as The Penguin, Scarecrow, Two-Face, and Harley Quinn.

Injustice 2 came out in 2017 for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC with its best Metacritic score on the Xbox One. The action fighting game features DC super heroes and villains that you can play and fight with.
Part of what makes the game so good is the amount of characters. You have Aquaman, Bane, Batman, Black Adam, Black Canary, Blue Beetle, Brainiac, Captain Cold, Catwoman, Cheetah, Cyborg, Starfire, Flash, Firestorm, Green Arrow, Green Lantern, Harely Quinn, Joker, Poison Ivy, Supergirl, Superman, Nightwing, Scarecrow, and Wonder Woman. That is not even all the characters and there are even more added with various DLCs.
1 Spider-Man (Score: 87)
Now this one is a blast from the past. Released in 2000 for the original PlayStation, Spider-Man was loved for its great voice-acting and extra content such as collecting new powers, suits, and comic book covers. The graphics were also perfect for time and console it was made for. The game combines various mechanics from platform, to fighting, and some shooter elements. While the graphics are now dated, the game still is enjoyable and fans still write about how much they love it on Metacritic to this day.
