There are cute Pokémon of every type, even the types that wouldn’t seem like it at face value. Fire, Poison, and Steel are examples of this. However, each definitely holds its own when it comes to being adorable. Fire, especially, is home to many more cuties than one might first think.

Many of the cutest Fire-types are, by their nature, starter Pokémon. But, there are others, too. Across the eight generations of Pokémon, many adorable Fire-type Pokémon have been introduced. Here are some of the best, ranked.

10 Litwick

There are actually quite a few Pokémon that are really cute despite being related to the undead or darker themes. Litwick is one example of this. The Ghost/Fire-type is a small candle with a purple flame. Its adorable face, cute little arms, melted wax “legs,” and little flickery flame are all great.

However, dig into Litwick’s Pokédex entries, and you might want to admire its cuteness from a distance. Litwick transfixes humans with its flame and slowly drains their life force. So, Litwick is definitely cute, but maybe don’t look at it for too long.

9 Flareon

It’s hard to talk about cute Pokémon without thinking of the Eeveelutions. These small dog- or fox-like evolutions of Eevee are all pretty adorable in their own unique ways. The Fire-type evolution, Flareon, is no exception to this.

What sets Flareon apart from the other Eeveelutions is its large, poofy fur. Many of the other Eeveelutions are more slender and lithe. Flareon is furry, cuddly, and looks warm (and not just because it’s Fire-type). The little tuft of hair on its forehead might honestly push it over the edge of what a human can bear, in terms of cuteness.

8 Tepig

The first of a few starters on this list, Tepig is a sweet little pig with a cute nose and fun bunny ears. It also has a curly tail with a ball on the end, which is reminiscent of a real pig’s curly tail.

Unfortunately, like many starters, Tepig loses its cuteness when it evolves. Its evolution, Pignite and Emboar are large and intense instead of adorable, which is fine. But, if you love cute things and want to keep them around, maybe avoid evolving your Tepig, so it stays cuddly forever.

7 Torchic

Another starter Pokémon, Torchic is the Fire-type choice in Generation III alongside Treecko and Mudkip. This little chick will evolve into Combusken and eventually the first of the dreaded Fighting/Fire-type starters, Blaziken, which gets a pass as the first.

Torchic itself is adorable. It’s a small little bird that is always trying to do its best. Part of its cute charm comes from the three feathers that wobble back and forth on top of its small head. Torchic is a great design for a starter.

6 Litleo

The pre-evolution of the intense and very cool Pyroar, Litleo is a small lion cub-like Pokémon introduced in Generation VI. From its small tuft of fire for the beginning of its mane to its little paws and cheerful eyes, Litleo is definitely cute.

Seeing as it is a direct translation from a lion cub to a Pokémon, wouldn’t it be great to see a Pokémon version of the Lion King? It will never happen, of course, but it would be very cute to see Simba as a Litleo.

5 Growlithe

One of the original cute Pokémon is Growlithe, introduced in Generation I. Upon the release of the original Pokémon anime and games, Growlithe quickly became a fan-favorite, with its popularity exploding throughout the early years of the franchise.

Growlithe is still considered a great Pokémon, and it’s definitely still one of the cutest. Who doesn’t love a fiery dog-tiger hybrid? Watching them run around in Pokémon Snap is one of the best scenes in the game, and every other portrayal of Growlithe is almost as cute.

4 Chimchar

Chimchar is yet another starter Pokémon, this time the Fire-type starter from the Sinnoh region in Generation IV. What makes this little monkey-like Pokémon so cute is its awkward proportions. Chimchar’s tiny body doesn’t look like it should be able to hold up its large, dorky head.

Again, the little tuft of hair seems to really seal the deal on the cuteness. Why is it that this works so well for so many Pokémon? Whatever the reason, it makes Chimchar cute, too.

3 Magby

Magby is, unsurprisingly, very cute. It’s no surprise in this case because Magby is a Baby Pokémon, a class of ‘mons introduced in Generation II and continued throughout the franchise. Magby is the Baby pre-evolution of Magmar, who was introduced a generation earlier.

Most of the Baby Pokémon are cute in some capacity, but Magby is the only Fire-type Baby, so far. But, its small hands, round belly, little beak, and perpetually-concerned expression are all adorable. Unfortunately, it eventually evolves into Magmortar, which is hands-down one of the ugliest Fire-types.

2 Vulpix

There are few Pokémon that are named cutest more often than Vulpix. This small kitsune or fox is almost unbearably adorable, with its split tail, little paws, and of course, small tuft of red hair. It has those anime eyes that always look watery that are often drawn onto cute things.

Vulpix has that cutesy attitude of always being curious about its surroundings, which often leads to playfulness and cute moments. It was made even cuter by its Alolan variant, which sadly isn’t Fire-type for this list, but is still adorable nonetheless.

1 Fennekin

It might be controversial to rank Fennekin above Vulpix, but it’s just cuter objectively. It has many of the same elements, especially since both are based on foxes or kitsune, but it takes them and pushes them to the limit.

The adorable little fur tufts are moved into its ears, which seems like a strange choice when described, but it works for some reason. Fennekin’s large ears and head are staple design choices for a cute Pokémon. Plus, the little cheek points and tiny paws are just too much to bear.
