While any MOBA would really fit the bill for this list, we chose League of Legends as the example. With a huge wealth of characters to choose from and play, paired with tried and true objective-based gameplay, there’s a lot to love here.
Add in fun event modes and a ranked mode to really test your skill, and you’ve got a large game on your hands. Oh, and it’s free, even if it might be filled with cosmetic microtransactions. League of Legends is a game you can play for hours on end.
9 World Of Warcraft
Wow, WOW sure is a popular game! Released originally in 2004, World of Warcraft is a game that’s still going strong 15 years later. The MMORPG’s expansive world is filled with quests and monsters for players to take on, alone or with a group.
Considering that the game has been consistently updated for so many years, there’s clearly a lot of content for fans to dive into, with many expansion packs available if you’re really feeling it. Still, the subscription fee required to play isn’t as fun as the rest of the game.
8 Skyrim
Soon to release their 18th port on the Atari Jaguar, Skyrim is a game that you can play for hundreds of hours. You can go anywhere and do just about anything you want, with the main quest alone taking up a huge chunk of time.
Add in the huge mod community that still surrounds the game, and you’ve got a massive game you can play for an endless amount of time. The upcoming Elder Scrolls Six will likely surpass this title, but realistically that title is a 2038 game.
7 Persona 5
Persona 5… literally who has the time for RPGs anymore? This PlayStation exclusive title that somehow got its main character in Smash is an RPG that you’ll be playing for hundreds of hours, easily.
The game is split between living your normal schoolboy life and then exploring the general population’s subconscious with your gang of superpowered friends… you know, as one does. While it is an intimidatingly long game to get into, it’s certainly worth all of the time that it requires out of you.
6 Destiny
Service games are all the rage nowadays because, hey, if you could find a money printer you’d probably like to have it around too. One of the best examples of these service games are Bungie’s Destiny and Destiny 2. The games are mainly multiplayer games that you can easily spend 1000s of hours on, and, of course, spend lots of money on.
With new expansions released every once in a while to keep things fresh, there is simply a wealth of content to play though in this game that will take you months to complete.
5 The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Complete Edition
The Witcher 3 is one of the most highly regarded games of the generation, and its massive expansion packs are just as equally loved by critics and fans alike. The action RPG features a stunning open world, monsters, and humans alike that main character Geralt must take care of, and dialogue choices that affect what happens in the end.
The game is simply bursting at the seams with content for players to get through. If you really want to get immersed in a world, this is a game to try out. Immersion is also the name of the game with the next entry on the list.
4 The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild
The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild is a game that you can finish in under an hour or over 200, the choice is really yours. With an expansive map that lets you travel anywhere filled to the brim with secrets, you can leisurely explore every nook and cranny, or run straight to Hyrule Castle to fight Ganon with a broom to show Zelda how cool you are.
The game is all about letting you choose how you play, so your experience will differ from everyone else’s. If you haven’t already, play this game.
3 Stardew Valley
This fantastic farming simulator resembles a Harvest Moon title with much more to do. Whether you want to do any of the above, or mine, or restore a community center, or fight monsters – you can! The game is very open-ended and allows you to do just about whatever you think sounds like fun. When it comes to this game, just about everything is fun.
2 Any Animal Crossing Game
No matter which title from the franchise that you’re choosing to play, Animal Crossing is a series that you can really have fun with forever and ever. It works best as a game that you check in on for a few hours every day due to the time-based nature of it.
It’s not one that you power through in twelve-hour sessions. Thus, you just kind of give over a solid portion of your life to this series. Because once you start, you aren’t stopping.
1 GTA Online
Grand Theft Auto online is the regular GTA gameplay that you love, but set in an online world that continues to grow. Despite releasing in 2013, this online-only side of GTA 5 is continually getting support while keeping the game in the top ten of sales for six years.
With new updates coming consistently, there’s never a dull moment in San Andreas.
