With the Call of Duty Challengers league underway, the Atlanta FaZe have raised the prize pool for their upcoming Challengers event from $10,000 to an eye-catching $25,000. As the Challengers league serves as a minor leagues to the Call of Duty League, amateur players can look forward to lucrative prize money all while they are actively auditioning for a spot on a premier team.
Atlanta will be hosting their League and Challengers matches on February 22 and 23. The turnout has been large enough that an increase in the payout was an elementary decision. This would be the second time this season that such an increase has occurred following launch weekend in Minnesota, where the Call of Duty League donated a sizable amount to increase the prize to a staggering $250,000.
While quarter million dollar payouts are not expected to be the norm, hosting teams ultimately make the decision to increase the prize money like FaZe opted to do. If the past two events are any indication of what’s next, it wouldn’t be outside of expectations that Challenger events are going to bring a large amount of entrants regardless of the posted winnings. Presuming that the Atlanta event goes off without a hitch, hopefully avoiding hosting the event in a parking garage like the Minnesota event, the Challengers league is already looking like a success
The rewards extend beyond the ever important cash. Prospective players who are not used to the competitive environment found in these major tournaments can get their feet wet and network with established professionals, dabble with potential sponsors and more. This has already worked wonders with Overwatch League and may yet unearth a new sensation in the pro ranks when it’s all said and done.
As participants continue to turn out and gain Challenger points to better their seeding, the competition should pick up in a big way as future stops include New York, Los Angeles and London, with many potential challengers awaiting at every turn. A champion will rise from this group of Challengers, and the glory of victory awaits whoever stands tall at season’s end.
