Final Fantasy 14 minions don’t really do anything outside of Lord of Verminion, but they sure are fun to have around. They basically are pets that just follow your character. There is a wide range of them, and they have a long scale between rare and common. Some can only be bought at the Mogstation, others can be found in dungeons and some are only available from events long ago.
Not all minions are cute, but there are some really adorable designs among them. These adorable ones tend to be the most popular.
Updated December 14, 2021 by Allison Stalberg: Endwalker has come out and the queue is crowded with players that are excited about their next adventure. Some fans took a long break, and are reworking their items and characters before starting the new content. Whatever the case may be, the influx of players includes an influx of more adorable minions running around. Most players want to bring an adorable little creature with them to their Sharlayan trip and beyond.
20 Tora Jiro
This is one of a few cat minions out there, but it is one of the cutest among them. Its large eyes and stubby legs make it look as though it is a chibi creature from an anime.
Unfortunately, it is not easy to obtain. It can only be bought for 800 Centurio Seals from Estrild or Leuekin. So, it only is accessible in Stormblood content. Not only that, but 800 Centurio Seals is a lot. You can only get those seals by participating in hunts, which is an activity that not all players take part in.
19 Baby Behemoth
The Baby Behemoth is far different from the intimidating adults that look as though they could tear you limb from limb. Instead of choosing violence, the Baby Behemoth is a bouncing purple bundle of joy. They are also not so easy to obtain, as they are unsellable and market prohibited.
To get a Baby Behemoth, players had to have bought the Collectors Edition of A Realm Reborn. Due to that, these little guys are not only cute but rare.
18 Bacon Bits
Porxies are some of the cutest creatures to come out of Shadowbringers. The little flying pigs come in both mount and minion form. The mount is acquired through Pixie Beast Tribe quests. The minion can be obtained from a retainer at level 80 during Woodland Exploration XXV.
So to get this cute little pig, you have to level a retainer up to a level 80 Botanist.
17 Bom Boko
If you are a fan of Japanese raccoon dogs or just a fan of the anime movie, Pom Poko, then this is the minion for you. It even has the little leaf on its forehead and can shapeshift like in the folklore!
Most players likely get this minion just from buying it on the Market Board. The way to get it without purchasing from other players is by sending your Retainers out on 18-hour Field Exploration Ventures.
16 The Chocobo Chicks
There are different kinds of chocobo chick minions that range from wearing different hats to coming in different colors. All of them are adorable, as chocobo chicks always have been in the Final Fantasy series.
Depending on the chick, they can be difficult or easy to obtain. The Wayward Hatchling minion can be caused from NPCs at the three city-states, the Black Vhocobo chick is a reward for having a two-month subscription, and the Castaway Chocobo chick can be found at either Heaven-on-High or caught by a fisher.
15 Salt And Pepper Seal
Of all the minions that live in the water, the salt and pepper seal is the cutest. If you pet it, it even flops over on its side as though it wants a belly rub.
The minion, like the Bom Boko, can be purchased on the Market Board. Typically, a Salt and Pepper Seal is a little more on the expensive side, though. The best way to get it—for free, mind you—is to run the level 70Stormblood dungeon, The Drowned City of Skalla. The Salt and Pepper Seal is possible to loot from a chest.
14 Lesser Panda
Despite its name, there is nothing “lesser” about this minion. It’s a red panda, which is already one of the cutest animals by default. While it is not only adorable, your character can have it ride on them rather than just follow behind you.
The minion is from Heavensward content and is often sold for a lot of gil by other players on the Market Board. If you want to get it for free, you will have to try your luck at the loot from the level 55 dungeon, The Aery.
13 Shaggy Shoat
Like Bacon Bits, Shaggy Shoat is another cute pig-inspired minion. Unlike Bacon Bits, it is not magical though. It is simply a piglet.
The little guy can be obtained through a level 60 Heavensward dungeon, Xelphatol. It is a rare drop, so it would be unlucky to get it on your first couple of runs through the dungeon. The average item level required for the dungeon is 210.
12 Tiny Rat
Not everyone is a fan of rats, but the Tiny Rat is undoubtedly adorable with its large ears, dainty nose, beady eyes, and little legs. Even the minions’ description knows how adorable it is, describing the rat to be one that can possibly cause a lot of trouble but is too adorable to condemn to a mousetrap.
The little guy is not simple to obtain, as you have to complete the Fate chain, “Attack on Highbridge” in Eastern Thanalan. Only after completing that chain can you purchase this minion from a vendor in Highbridge.
11 Dwarf Rabbit
Nothing is quite as sweet as a little bunny. The dwarf rabbit has large eyes, tiny feet, and innocently hops around as you destroy your enemies.
The dwarf rabbit can be found in a number of ways. Some players purchase it from others on the Market Board, while others are lucky enough to find this minion in Silver Sacks from Heaven-on-High or in the Aquapolis.
10 Fat Cat
Some people just love fat animals, and that is why the fat cat minion is so expensive on the Market Board. Players often sell these for millions of gil! In fact, the minion is so popular that is has inspired furniture designs and got its own mount.
To get this minion without paying a lot of gil, you will need to send your Retainers out on an 18-hour Waterside Exploration Venture. That means you got to have some fishing skills!
9 White Whittret
Some people affectionately call ferrets “cat noodles,” and the White Whittret certainly fits that description. It has that long floppy body and has an adorable face you just want to smooch.
The minion is obtainable from the level 70 dungeon, Hells’ Lid, in Stormblood. The minion is a rare drop from the final chest. The dungeon is unlocked from the Four Lords questline. Fans of cute minions tend to love that questline, as there are many cute minions in it!
8 Tiny Tapir
A tapir has never looked more adorable than in this minion design. Real tapirs that are native to South America are pretty big, but in Final Fantasy 14, this one is no larger than a puppy. Instead of brown, this one is also baby blue and white with little blushing cheeks.
The tapir is not too hard to get, as it is sellable on the Market Board and can be obtained from field exploration in retainer ventures.
7 Tiny Echevore
This adorable creature is a rare loot drop in the level 73 Shadowbringers dungeon, Dohn Mheg.
According to its in-game description, the minion’s tail tastes like nectar. According to its Lord of Verminion description, the nectar on its tail is meant to lure bugs for it to eat. The scales on its back are meant to resemble a succulent plant for camouflage. It looks like a Pokemon!
6 Capybara Pup
Capybaras are all the rage as mascots in Japan, so, of course, a minion like this would end up in the game.
It is a pretty hard-to-find minion and sells for a ton on the Market Board. To get it without paying a ton of gil, you need to venture through treasure map dungeons and get very lucky with the loot. In particular, you will need a Timeworn Gazelleskin Map, which is for level 70 players. Luckily, the maps have gotten cheaper since Shadowbringers released their level 80 treasure maps.
5 Hedgehoglet
The spikes definitely won’t deter some players from wanting to give this minion a snuggle. This is another one of those minions that are very expensive on the Market Board due to its adorable design and rarity.
Like the Capybara Pup, you will only get this minion for free if you get really lucky in treasure map dungeons like Hidden Canals, Lost Canals, or Shifting Altars of Uznair.
4 Nutkin
Nutkin is cute, but it is also somewhat of an inside joke. You can probably guess what the joke is! It even canonically censored one scene where a certain NPC was naked.
Jokes aside, Nutkin are very adorable. Like the Lesser Panda, it can also climb up your character and have a ride on your shoulder. You can buy one through the Market Board, get it from Palace of the Dead’s pieces of the accursed hoard, or from The Aquapolis.
3 Drippy
Unlike most of the cute minions, Drippy is not a baby animal. Instead, it is a magical watery being. It is adorable though, with big baby eyes, little bear-like ears, and stubby arms.
The minion is from Shadowbringers content, in the level 80 dungeon Matoya’s Relict. Is a rare loot drop. However, it can be easy to get through grinding. The dungeon actually has Drippy as a boss as well.
2 Penguin Prince
This minion is the most difficult on this list to get because it is Market Prohibited. It cannot even be expensive because other players do not have the ability to sell it!
The only way to get it is at the Golden Saucer. You have to complete 4 different Lord of Verminion tournaments with double-digit victories. This is a lot because almost no players like this mini-game. Even if you do like it, you need to win a decent amount with a high score. Is that worth it for a cute penguin? For penguin fans, it just might be.
1 Tender Lamb
These sheep have gotten more popular, with a mount coming out after the minion. The little lamb is not so simple to get though, as it was obtainable only at the Heavensturn event in 2015. For those dying for a fluffy friend though, the Mogstation does sell this minion for just five dollars.
Many herds of these sheep can be found throughout the Azim Steppe. Fans love them for their twisting tails, little legs, fluffy fur, and large bell.
