The esports industry continues to grow every year. More leagues are being announced (Call of Duty League), more viewers are coming in (Overwatch League) and legendary esport scenes continue to thrive (League of Legends, CS:GO). Now, more than ever, is a great time to become a fan of an esports game. With these years nominees for ‘Best Esports Game’ for The Game Awards, a handful of wonderful esports games are recognized.
There are five games nominated for ‘Best Esports Game’ this year. They are CS:GO, DOTA 2, Fortnite, League of Legends and Overwatch.
Fortnite is the relatively new kid on the block but has enjoyed immense success since it broke into the pop-culture zeitgeist and Bugha won big at the 2019 Esports Awards. Unlike the other games on this list, the Fortnite competitive scene largely focuses on the solo-tournaments instead of team gameplay.
No matter which game wins ‘Best Esports Game’ it has been a wonderful year for the industry as a whole. There were amazing tournaments, spectacular championships and truly amazing play from some of the best players in the world.
