Epic Games has grabbed up yet another exclusive for its platform, this time with the addition of developer Big Blue Bubble’s 2D action-platformer, Foregone. The partnership was announced during the special Epic Games show reel at the 2019 Game Awards livestream.
Speaking about the collaboration, CEO of Big Blu Bubble Damir Slogar states, “We’re excited for the PC release of Foregone through the Epic Games Store. Our team has worked tirelessly on every detail to produce a game that we’re sure players will appreciate and enjoy.”
For those who may not be familiar with the game, Foregone challenges players with its quick and fluid 2D action-platforming that blends elements from games like Dead Cells but also adds permanent progression through randomized loot mechanics and a branching skill tree with customizable abilities. The developer was recently showcasing Foregone at the 2019 Enthusiast Gaming Live Expo (EGLX) in Toronto and early gameplay was impressive and polished.
Forgone takes place in the sprawling city of Calagan years after enduring a devastating war. An all-corrupting force known as the Harrow is causing chaos on the city and players must take on the role of the city’s strongest Arbiter to fight back against this unexpected and overwhelming force.
The developer has often described the game as a challenging blend of Diablo and Dark Souls, although the difficulty only really ramps up in boss battles. On the way to each boss you will encounter many enemies, and each has a chance to drop a new piece of loot. Players will thus always have choices to make to become progressively more powerful through customizing their weapons, and as a result, how they choose to tackle challenges in the game.
Once a player reaches a boss, the Dark Souls description becomes far more accurate. Each boss requires careful planning to defeat, and sloppiness will be met with a quick death for any player.
With its old-school look with great looking pixel animation, players should be in for a real treat with Foregone. The game will launch in Early Access February 27, 2020. The game is available for pre-order today ($24.99 USD) on the Epic Game Store and the plan is to launch on major consoles in mid-2020.
