The world of Pokemon is inhabited by fascinating creatures found throughout its landscape, waters, and skies. Both big and small, Pokemon are extraordinary creatures that share an uncanny bond with their trainer. Given their tremendous power capabilities, it’s not surprising that some can weigh over 1,000 lbs. Bigger doesn’t inherently mean more power, but it could indicate that they have special abilities.

The following Pokemon are among the heaviest in the Pokemon world. Many of them are from the newer generations, which could mean Pokemon’s creators are designing more massive Pokemon. Enjoy!

Updated December 30, 2021, by Cameron Roy Hall:Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, the Switch remakes of the fourth generation DS titles with slightly shorter names, released in late 2021 to broadly positive reviews. Additionally, Pokemon Legends Arceus, an entirely new adventure, will hit the shelves on January 28, 2022.

Basically, Nintendo never rests, and neither do we. We’ve brought back and expanded this wonderful piece about the heaviest Pokemon in their monster catalog. There are no real surprises here, but there’s a weird pleasure in knowing which Pokemon to avoid doing a trust fall with.

25 Avalugg - 1113.3 lbs (505.0 kg)

Mildly less impressive than its cousin which sunk a certain famous boat, Avalugg is a tortoise creature made entirely of ice. The stolid, chilly Torterra was introduced during Generation 6 (Pokemon X and Y) and weighs 1113.3 lbs (505.0 kg), which, again, is less than titanic.

Still, it’s not exactly small. According to its numerous Pokedex entries, Avalugg’s back is so big and flat that Bergmites, its pre-evolution, will often use it as a ferrying system. An incredibly slow, cold, slippery ferrying system. Hey, whatever works!

24 Stonejourner - 1146.4 lbs (520.0 kg)

Continuing Nintendo’s time-honored tradition of “Rock With Face On It” is Stonejourner, an adorable homage to Stone Henge. The leggy beast made its debut in Generation 8 (Pokemon Sword and Shield) which drew its inspiration from European cultures, so the Stone Henge thing kind of tracks.

Stonejourner clocks in at 1146.4 lbs (520.0 kg) which it uses to… stand in fields, watching the sunset. Depending on your opinion of sentient stone golems, this is either endearing or terrifying. Also, it’s less curious than their Shield Pokedex entry, which claims that they gather in circles once a year to… do nothing. Look, Stonejourner is going through some stuff, okay?

23 Metagross - 1212.5 lbs (550.0 kg)

There’s no easy way to tell you that Metagross, the Generation 3 (Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire) stand out in both levels of coolness and horrible naming conventions, is technically a Megazord. Which… makes sense, but you hate to see it, for some reason. The Pokedex entries, across the board, read like a horror blurb, saying that Metagross is the result of multiple Metangs fusing together.

That coupled with the fact that the entire evolutionary line is Steel/Psychic typed, the 1212.5 lbs (550.0 kg) weight starts to make sense. What still eludes explanation, however, is the horrifying truth that Metagross has a propensity for eating living things whole with its awful, gaping maw.

22 Zygarde (Complete Form) - 1344.8 lbs (610.0 kg)

Zygarde is the lamest Pokemon in that it forced children to learn how to work percentages, and the best in that it’s a snake, a little puppy, or the seventeenth colossus - depending on the day. In its Complete form, this Generation 6 (Pokemon Black and White) appears loosely humanoid, although it still retains its black and green armored veneer.

Zygarde Complete weighs in at 1344.8 lbs (610.0 kg), but don’t worry about it feeling self-conscious. Should it grow tired of being bulky, it can shed the weight and revert back to its 50 percent or ten percent variations, making it the only Pokemon that can technically devolve.

21 Giratina (Origin Forme) - 1433.0 lbs (650.0 kg)

Giratina makes another appearance on this list a little later on (spoiler: it grows legs), but for now, the primary name on the Distortion World’s lease weighs in at 1433.0 lbs (650.0 kg), so long as it’s in its Origin Forme, at least.

According to its Pokedex entries, our snakey friend was banished for excessive violence, which shouldn’t be surprising, considering Giratina has more spiky appendages than a Bionicle set. Maybe the Generation 4 (Pokemon Diamond and Pearl) mascot gets friendlier when it grows stumpy little legs? We’ll get back to that.

20 Copperajah - 1433.0 lbs (650.0 kg)

Copperajah was added with the release of Pokemon Sword and Shield. It’s a Steel-type Pokemon that evolves from the adorable Cufant starting from level 34. Considering that this Pokemon was clearly inspired by an elephant, it’s no surprise that it weighs quite a lot, coming in at a staggering 1433.0 lbs (650.0 kg).

Copperajah also has a Gigantamax form, making it even larger, but there is no known listing for its weight when Gigantamaxed, nor any of the other Gigantamax Pokemon either. Abilities, on the other hand, can affect a Pokemon’s weight.

19 Dialga - 1505.8 lbs (683.0 kg)

Dialga is one of the legendary Pokemon that was added in Generation 4 with the release of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. It is a dual-type Steel/Dragon Legendary Pokemon and was the mascot for the Diamond version of the game.

Dialga weighs 1505.8 lbs. (683.0 kg), which is considerably more than its Pearl counterpart Palkia that weighs only 740.8 lbs. (336.0 kg). It’s likely that Dialga’s Steel-typing makes its weight more considerable. Unsurprisingly, it’s not the only Steel-type to be amongst the heaviest Pokemon in the series.

18 Heavy Metal Aggron - 1587.4 lbs (720.0 kg)

Aggron, Hoenn’s steel-type titan, is surprisingly not that heavy in the grand scheme of things. It isn’t even the heaviest Pokemon in its own game normally, being outweighed by Metagross and Wailord. It may be big, but it still isn’t that heavy.

However, in Sword and Shield, Aggron was given a new ability: Heavy Metal. This doubles the Pokemon’s weight for weight-based calculations. This bumps Aggron up well into the highest weight class, although it still doesn’t quite clear the barrier of entry for other Pokemon. Mega Steelix is also technically still heavier at 1631.4 lbs (740.0 kg), but Mega Evolutions wouldn’t be as fun to add to the list.

17 Mega Steelix - 1631.4 lbs (740.0 kg)

Steelix is a dual-type Steel/Ground Pokemon that evolves from Onix when it is traded while holding the Metal Coat evolutionary item. The normal version of Steelix is a paltry weight compared to other Pokemon, weighing in at just 881.8 lbs. (400.0 kg).

However, when Mega Evolutions were added in Generation 6, Steelix received a new form that put its new weight up to 1,631.4 lbs. (740.0 kg). Players can evolve their Steelix into Mega Steelix by using the Steelixite item.

16 Altered Forme Giratina — 1653.5 lbs (750.0 kg)

Giratina, the box legendary of Pokemon Platinum, comes in two flavors. The special flavor is Origin Forme, where Giratina loses its legs and over 200 lbs (90.7 kg). The Altered Forme, found in both Platinum and the original Diamond and Pearl, clocks in just enough to squeeze its way onto the list.

Interestingly, although Altered Forme Giratina weighs more, Origin Forme is taller in height. Additionally, for anyone that has seen some of the leaked beta designs of Gen 4 Pokemon, Giratina certainly looks… different. It’s hard to tell if it would’ve shared the same weight if they had stuck with its original design.

15 Crowned Shield Zamazenta - 1730.6 lbs (785.0 kg)

Zamazenta, the box legendary of Pokemon Shield version, isn’t that heavy as just a wolf. Its sibling, Zacian, is also around half of Zamazenta’s base weight. However, nobody cared who Zamazenta was before it put on the mask (and shield).

With this sturdy steel shield, Zamazenta gains just under 1300 lbs (589.67 kg). The shield it carries is apparently heavier than many legendary Pokemon. The shield alone is heavier than Crowned Sword Zacian. It’s a miracle that Zamazenta is able to carry metal that dense, but perhaps it’s a well-balanced shield. That leaves a question of just how strong Hop/the player is for carrying its rusted form.

14 Melmetal - 1763.7 lbs (800.0 kg)

If you’re one of the many people who are still watching the Pokemon anime, you may recognize this mythical Steel-type Pokemon. We are, of course, referring to Melmetal, one of the heaviest Pokemon in existence. As part of Ash’s team, Meltan combined with another to form a Melmetal during the Manalo Conference finals!

At a whopping 1763.7 lbs (800 kg), Melmetal has a body that is made mostly of liquid metal. Its hexagonal nuts keep it from falling apart. At the end of its life, Melmetal falls apart and reverts into Meltan.

13 Glastrier - 1763.7 lbs (800.0 kg)

Glastrier was one of the new legendary Pokemon added with the release of The Crown Tundra DLC and is a rather awesome Ice-type horse. It doesn’t evolve into any other form, however, it can fuse with Calyrex, which we’ll get into next.

Glastrier is pretty weighty, not that it compares to Mudslade when considering the weight of other horse Pokemon, but it does weigh 1763.7 lbs. (800.0 kg), which makes it one of the heaviest Pokemon to date and heavier than its Crown Tundra counterpart Spectrier.

12 Ice Rider Calyrex - 1783.8 lbs (809.1 kg)

Calyrex is one of the latest Legendary Pokemon to be added as it debuted with the release of The Crown Tundra DLC for Sword and Shield. This Psychic/Grass Pokemon doesn’t evolve, but it does have two additional forms.

When players use the Reins of Unity on Calyrex and either Glastrier or Spectrier, it fuses the two Pokemon together and they become either Ice Rider Calyrex or Shadow Rider Calyrex until the fusion is finished. Ice Rider Calyrex weighs a whopping 1783.8 lbs. (809.1 kg).

11 Stakataka - 1807.8 lbs (820.0 kg)

This Ultra Beast is recognized by the code name UB Assembly, but it is better known by Stakataka. As its name implies, Stakataka consists of stacks of grey stone. The grey stones that it is made up of are life forms with glowing blue eyes. These eyes can change color when the Pokemon is startled or in a battle.

Stakataka is the heaviest Rock-type Pokemon that we’ve discovered thus far. It has a tremendous weight of 1807.8 lbs (820.0 kg), which is not surprising considering its colossal size.

10 Guzzlord -1957.7 lbs (888.0 kg)

This Pokemon guzzles almost anything in sight. There are reports of Guzzlord swallowing mountains whole. Interestingly enough, Guzzlord is the heaviest Dark-type in existence, and one of the most massive Dragon-type Pokemon.

In appearance, Guzzlord can be quite frightening. As a Pokemon that weighs 1957.7 lbs (888.0 kg), it has a long tongue that moves in a waving motion to suck up food. Even with its enormous appetite, no one has ever found droppings left from a Guzzlord.

9 Mudsdale - 2028.3 lbs (920.0 kg)

First introduced in Generation 7 of the Pokemon main series game, Mudsdale evolves from a Mudbray at level 30. This Pokemon may not seem as weighty as other Pokemon on this list, but given its size, heavy eyelids, and legs, its weight is accurate.

Mudsdale weighs 2028.3 lbs (920.0 kg), making it one of the heaviest Pokemon in existence. The tail resembles dreadlocks, but it is missing black notches. This Pokemon displays a great deal of resilience in the face of a heated battle.

8 Mega Metagross - 2078.7 lbs (942.9 kg)

Despite having an animalistic appearance that is reminiscent of a crab, Mega Metagross is highly intelligent with a mind that is on par with a supercomputer. Its multiple brains allow it to perform advanced calculations.

According to Mega Meatagross’s Pokedex entry, “When it knows it can’t win, it digs the claws on its legs into its opponent and starts the countdown to a big explosion.” When mega-evolving into a Mega Metagross, its weight nearly doubles. Mega Metagross has a weight of 2078.7 lbs (942.9 kg).

7 Groudon - 2,094 lbs (950.0 kg)

Groudon first appeared in Pokemon Ruby and has been a formidable Pokemon since then. Many of us know Groudon for its ongoing conflict with Kyogre. Groudon is said to lay asleep in a volcano, waiting for its next fight with Kyogre.

According to Groudon’s Pokemon Omega Ruby Pokedex entry, “Groudon is said to be the personification of the land itself. Legends tell of its many clashes against Kyogre, as each sought to gain the power of nature.” This gigantic Pokemon has a weight of 2,094 lbs (950 kg).

6 Eternatus - 2094.4 lbs (950.0 kg)

Introduced in Pokemon Sword and Shield, Eternatus plays a part in the two games’ stories. Its enormous size categorizes it as the tallest Pokemon we’ve encountered thus far. As an Eternatus, it has an impressive weight of 2094.4 lbs (950.0 kg), but when it changes forms, it may become the heaviest Pokemon in existence.

We don’t know for sure since witnessing Eternatus’s alternate form is a rare occurrence. Its weight hasn’t been measured as an Eternamax Eternatus, so its alternative weight is a question mark.
