In just a few short months from today, Naughty Dog’s highly-anticipated game, The Last of Us 2, will be releasing exclusively to the PS4, despite suffering from numerous delays. Luckily for Naughty Dog, fans of the action-adventure title were forgiving of the development setbacks, given that many were understanding of the need for more time for the studio to bring the sequel to a level of quality that would hopefully live up and surpass the original game.
Now, The Last of Us 2 has been given an official age rating by the ESRB board, and classified the game as rated “M” for “Mature.” According to the updated website for the sequel, the ESRB gave the rating on account of the game’s “Blood and gore, intense violence, nudity, sexual content, strong language, and use of drugs.” Of course, given the gory and violent nature of the game, the rating doesn’t come as a surprise given that the first Last of Us was also rated the same way.
However, apart from the blood and violence that was prevalent in its predecessor, the addition of “sexual content” and “nudity” are a first for a Naughty Dog game. In previous titles such as Uncharted, the studio only depicted these scenes through suggestive cutaways, but it appears that The Last of Us 2 will be taking a different approach to how it will depict intimate scenes in the game. Of course, if Naughty Dog will indeed introduce in-depth intimate elements in the game, then The Last of Us 2 will be the studio’s most ambitious, mature and adult-oriented title as of yet.
Now, fans who are eagerly anticipating to receive more updates about The Last of Us 2 would be happy to know that the game will be featured in the upcoming Taipei Game Show. The event will host game developers from all over the world and will be filled with news updates and brand new previews of some of the most highly-anticipated titles of 2020. Apart from The Last of Us 2, other titles such as Cyberpunk 2077, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and Nioh 2 will be present in the event, which will run from February 7th to 9th.
Meanwhile, the first Last of Us game continues to remain popular just as it did when it was first released back in 2013. Most recently, The Last of Us was heralded as Game of the Decade by the PlayStation community. Of course, given the massive impact The Last of Us brought to the video game community, it isn’t surprising that it is widely considered by many as the game that defined the 2010’s, and hopefully, The Last of Us 2 will be received the same way.
The Last of Us 2 releases May 29, 2020, exclusively for the PS4.
