A former Naughty Dog developer has denied claims, from a tweeter, that the upcoming remake, The Last of Us Part I, is a cash grab.

In a tweet from his personal account, Robert Morrison said:

“Actually it’s the most meticulously built and crafted project that I have ever seen or been a part of in my entire career. The highest level of care and attention to detail possible.”

Morrison has credits on Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Injustice 2, and 2018’s God of War. So this is no small praise.

Still, it is understandable that people would be skeptical of the new game. It is a remake of a game that still looks stunning. And a game that Sony already had remastered on the PlayStation 4. Besides, there can be such thing is a meticulously crafted cash grab. Not that that is what The Last of Us Part I will be.

When I saw the trailer for the upcoming remake, I was ludicrously excited. Somehow, I can’t conjure any cynicism around it, mostly, I suppose, because it is a very good video game indeed. But perhaps £70 will be too steep a price for some to pay for a game that they have already played.

Maybe it will find its way onto the new PlayStation Plus.
