Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead comic book series may be over, but the franchise has continued through multiple TV shows and video games. In 2020, The Walking Dead will be expanding into the world of virtual reality, with two projects - The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners and The Walking Dead: Onslaught. Saints and Sinners will be the first Walking Dead VR project, set to release as early as next month for certain VR platforms.
The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners will launch on January 23, 2020 for Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Valve Index, and Windows MR. A PlayStation VR version of the game will come later in Q1 of 2020, with an Oculus Quest version releasing in Q3. Of course, Oculus Quest owners should still be able to play The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners on January 23 thanks to Oculus Link, so those with access to a high-powered PC may not have to wait quite as long to see what all the fuss is about.
The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners will have a few different editions for fans to choose from. The standard edition of the game retails for $39.99, whereas the Tourist Edition costs $49.99. Those that decide to shell out the extra cash for the Tourist Edition can get their hands on special in-game weapons and crafting recipes, in addition to the game’s soundtrack. The much more expensive Tower Edition, retailing for $149.99, comes with everything that’s in the Tourist Edition plus a physical backpack, magnetic camping lantern, 16GB “thumb” drive that looks like an actual thumb, and some other goodies.
Even though The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners is just a month away from release, we haven’t really gotten a good look at the gameplay until now. As far as VR titles go, The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners looks like it will be fully-featured, allowing players to kill zombies using a variety of weapons that should be recognizable to fans of the TV show and comic book. Players will also encounter a variety of other survivors during their adventure, which should have some interesting story implications.
Between The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners and The Walking Dead: Onslaught, The Walking Dead fans should have no shortage of VR games to try in 2020.
The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners launches on January 23, 2020 for PC VR headsets, Q1 2020 for PlayStation VR, and Q3 2020 for Oculus Quest.
