The long wait for The Walking Dead: World Beyond is almost over. Well, not really. But at least we now know when that wait will end.
When the show was delayed from its original April premiere date, The Walking Dead: World Beyond has already completed filming, leaving some fans to wonder why the show had been delayed in the first place. The delay could have been related to other delays within The Walking Dead universe. Both The Walking Dead season 11 and Fear the Walking Dead season 6 had to suspend production in the wake of the pandemic.
The Walking Dead: World Beyond is set to be a bold new direction for The Walking Dead expanded universe. The show is described as a “two-season limited event” meaning that it will conclude following the end of its second season. The first season was set to have 10 episodes. The series is also set to examine the zombie apocalypse from the perspective of young people who have grown up within it. AMC’s description for the project reads:
The Walking Dead: World Beyond was co-created by Walking Dead universe producer Scott Gimple and The Walking Dead writer Matthew Negrete, who also serves as showrunner.
All in all, it’s a busy time for The Walking Dead franchise. Original author Robert Kirkman recently announced plans to re-release the entire run of the comic in full color. This comes after a Negan-centric special issue of the comic was released as well. While the coronavirus pandemic delayed the release of The Walking Dead season 10 finale and the season 11 premiere as well, AMC has announced that season 10 is set to release an additional six episodes.
Not too bad for the now-decades old endeavor.
