The Wire creator David Simon is sticking with HBO to create new drama The Deuce, which is set in the porn industry during the 70s and 80s, reports Variety.
The Deuce tells the story of the legalisation and rise of the porn industry in New York’s Times Square. Events in the show are said to be partly inspired by the careers of twin brothers, Vincent and Frankie Martino, who were big players in Times Square and became fronts for mob control of the sex industry. James Franco is to play both twins.
Franco will star alongside Maggie Gyllenhall, who plays a Times Square hooker called Candy who finds herself drawn into the porn industry.
Although The Deuce has been given a series order by HBO it’s not yet known how many episodes will make up the season.
