Considering The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is an epic roleplaying game with dark fantasy elements, you can expect to face off against numerous bosses, both human and monster.
The vast majority of creatures are nightmarish deviants that will provide a challenge during the boss fights. The following list details all the bosses you’ll face in the main game and the two DLCs in order.
22 Royal Griffin
The Royal Griffin is the first official monster boss you will fight at the end of the prologue in White Orchard. It is part of the “Beast of White Orchard” quest, which is technically a contract but counts as a main quest as well. Geralt and Vesemir will spend a great deal of time prepping to fight the Griffin by finding buckthorn and learning everything they can about the creature.
21 The King of Wolves
The King of Wolves is a fairly early boss fight that you’ll have to tackle while playing as Ciri. As the name suggests, he is a terrifying werewolf. This is actually the first real boss you’ll encounter as Ciri in the game and happens at the beginning of Act I.
20 Nithral
Nithral is the third big boss you’ll fight in the game (unless you take a much different path than is recommended). You’ll encounter him during the “Wandering in the Dark” quest with Keira Metz.
It’s nice because at least you have the aide of a sorceress to help you defeat him! He can be a tricky boss to defeat, especially when he starts using the rift.
19 Caleb Menge
Caleb Menge is the cruel leader of the witch hunters who you’ll encounter during two quests in Novigrad. You will have a choice of fighting him during the “Count Reuven’s Treasure” quest. Depending on the choices you make, you might be able to simply sneak out of the outpost but if you engage the witch hunters you’ll have to fight Menge.
18 Ice Giant
The Ice Giant known as Myrhyff is actually an optional boss but one that most players encounter since playing all of the quests is one of the best parts of The Witcher 3. Myrhyff is a very difficult fight if you’re not prepared. Make sure you have Ogroid Oil and be prepared to use Quen quite a bit. There is a way to avoid fighting him if you’re sneaky enough.
17 Crones
You will have to defeat the crones, Brewess, Weavess, and Whispess, during the “Bald Mountain” quest, as Ciri.
It’s one of the toughest fights in the entire game so make sure you’re prepared. It’s best to go after Brewess first if you can.
16 Imlerith
After Ciri finishes beating the crones, you’ll then switch back to Geralt. Geralt will have to kill Imlerith who is one of the general’s of the Wild Hunt’s army. He is the easiest of the three main Wild Hunt members you’ll have to fight with but don’t underestimate him either. He looks more threatening than he is with his massive sword and mace.
15 Caranthir
You will have to defeat Caranthir during one of the final quests in the game, “On Thin Ice.” Caranthir was the navigator of the Wild Hunt and one of Eredin’s most-trusted lieutenants.
14 Eredin
After defeating Caranthir in “On Thin Ice” you’ll have to defeat Eredin, who is the leader of the Wild Hunt and one of the deadliest foes in the game.
As the commander and King of the Wild Hunt, he is the final big boss in the main game before you move on to the DLCs.
13 The Toad Prince
The Toad Prince is the first big boss of the Heart of Stone main story. He’s not easy! Many people wrongly assume he will be since he’s so early in the expansion but he’s actually considered to be one of the most difficult bosses in the entire game. You’ll find him dwelling in the Oxenfurt sewers during “Evil’s Soft First Touches.”
12 Ulrich
You’ll encounter Ulrich a couple of times but fighting him will be optional if you complete the “Rose on a Red Field” quest. He recognizes Geralt as the killer of Jacques de Aldersbergs and attacks him.
11 The Caretaker
Now we’ve progressed into the Hearts of Stone DLC bosses. The Caretaker is one of the hardest and creepiest boss fights in the game. He is a relict monster you’ll encounter during the “Scenes from a Marriage” quest. He was summoned by Olgierd and a servant of Iris von Everec.
10 The Wraith From The Painting
The Wraith is another boss from the “Scenes from a Marriage” main quest. Defeat her like you would any other Wraith, but be prepared for a trickier fight.
Afterward, you’ll gain access to the Painted World.
9 Ethereal
Ethereal is a creature that takes on the shape of the Iris von Everec’s greatest fear, which happens to be her husband. You will also have to defeat this monster in the “Scenes from a Marriage” quest. The events of this quest can take place in a different order depending on the choices you make.
8 Golyat
You will fight the Golyat in the beginning of the “Beast of Toussaint” quest. You can get a special achievement called the “David and Golyat” if you manage to hit him in the eye with your crossbow, resulting in instant death.
7 The Bruxa Of Corvo Bianco
You’ll face off against the Bruxa of Corvo Bianco in the early Blood and Wine quest, “Beast of Toussaint.” She kills a lot of people before she and Geralt finally fight. Don’t underestimate her and make sure you have Vampire Oil at the ready.
6 Shaelmaar From The Emperor of Nilfgaard
This Shaelmaar should be fought the same way as any other but it is specially bred for arena fights. It will appear in the “Beast of Toussaint” quest and has a high defense.
5 Spotted Wight
The Spotted Wight is a type of Necrophage you encounter during the “La Cage au Fou” quest.
In reality, the Spotted Wight a young woman who was cursed into a monster. Geralt will have a choice of killing it or lifting the curse.
4 Cloud Giant
The Cloud Giant is encountered at the top of the beanstalk while you’re in the Land of a Thousand Fables during the “Beyond Hill and Dale…” quest. The trickiest thing about him is his ability to disappear into the clouds and then surprise attack Geralt.
3 Alpha Garkain
The Alpha Garkain is one of the last big bosses in Blood and Wine. You’ll have to fight him during the “Blood Simple” quest. He is similar to the lesser vampire known as the regular Garkain but much stronger.
