If you’ve played The Witcher 3, then you know just how powerful Yennefer can be. The sorceress even drained the power of a sacred garden to bring back the dead. With all that power, many even debate if Yennefer could be the strongest magic user in The Witcher’s universe.

With this in mind, though, how does Yennefer stack up when compared with other powerful magic users from other games? Is she the strongest mage of them all, or would she fall in battle to a stronger user? We can’t help but think about how Yennefer ranks in comparison to the video game greats. Below we have listed five video game mages more powerful than Yennefer and five that aren’t.

10 YENNEFER WINS: Donald Duck

When you think of mages in video games, one of the greats that may not come to mind is Donald Duck. Donald is the main magic caster in Kingdom Hearts and the bane of many players’ existence. He wields an arsenal of spells, although none of them are all that powerful in comparison to Yennefer, who can wipe out multiple enemies in just seconds with the use of her powers.

It’s safe to say that Yennefer would quickly be able to wipe out Donald Duck without even having to use the full extent of her magic.

9 YENNEFER LOSES: Bayonetta

While Yennefer is certainly powerful, we feel like she wouldn’t be the victor if she decided to fight Bayonetta. Not only is the beautiful witch capable of using torture related spells on her opponents, but she is also quite skilled with guns. In fact, she has two guns installed into her boots. If that’s not bad enough for Yennefer, then think about the fact that Bayonetta can slow down time.

This would allow the young woman the perfect to chance to either get in a shot from her guns or capture Yennefer in one of her many powerful attacks,

8 YENNEFER WINS: Rita Mordio

Rita is a mage from Tales of Vesperia who helps her teammates on their quest to help Estelle. Rita is a mage who excels in the elemental arts and can even command meteors to fall on the battlefield. Even counting this, though, Rita has a very small range of effectiveness that could give Yennefer the edge. Rita is also a young mage, who by the end of Vesperia, had only been using her abilities for a short amount of time.

Based on Rita’s limited range of attack and her inexperience, Yennefer is likely to win this battle.

7 YENNEFER LOSES: Magus

Magus was talented in the magical arts from a young age, and by the time he was an adult he was already commanding an army. When you battle Magus in Chrono Trigger his attacks always hit and he has a strong barrier of protection that reduces the damage that he takes from attacks. On top of all of this he also can cause an effect that drains his opponents of their health.

In a fight with Yennefer we feel like Magus would block her attacks with ease. After she is startled by his strong barrier he is likely to move in for the kill with a lighting strike.

6 YENNEFER WINS: V

While V is certainly good at controlling demons to fight for him, he is a newborn mage. In fact, even V states that he is but a couple of days old in the game. Still, having a character who controls others was one of the most interesting fighting styles introduced into the Devil May Cry series. But even with V’s newfound control over demons, we doubt he could stop Yennefer.

V has a weak physical body, and one shot from Yennefer’s powerful multi-target attacks would end the young man before he ever made it back to Vergil.

5 YENNEFER LOSES: Vaati

Vaati is one of the most underrated villains in the Zelda series. Vaati appears in The Minish Cap, where he quickly takes over Hyrule using his magical powers. Once you finally make your way to the top of the castle though, you get to fight the mage. He has three forms, all with a large variety of attacks, Vaati’s Wrath, in particular, would give Yennefer a hard time, if she could even make it that far.

Vaati uses the power of magical lasers coupled with his large form to crush his enemies, even the powerful Hero of Time had trouble taking him down.

4 YENNEFER WINS: Gruntilda

One of the most beloved gaming franchises of all time is Banjo-Kazooie. The main antagonist of the franchise is a witch named Gruntilda, who is more bark than she is bite. Gruntilda is a stereotypical green witch who flies around on a broom and shoots magic spells at her opponents. While Yennefer can’t fly, we have a hard time believing that she couldn’t knock Gruntilda off of her broom with just a small spell.

Gruntilda may be a problem for Banjo, but Yennefer would have no trouble making a complete mess of her lair.

3 YENNEFER LOSES: Kirika Towa

Kirika is a gentle soul from Shining Resonance. Along with being a powerful mage, she is also a dragoneer, contributing to her immense amount of power. She follows Yuma in the game, who is connected to the shining dragon that she worships. Sadly, Kirika is more skilled in buffing her friends than she is in battle magic. When she does fight, though, she does well to hold her own in battle and attacks at a distance.

Sadly, Yennefer has distance spells that are quite devastating. Yennefer would likely make quick work of Kirika before the battle truly even got started.

2 YENNEFER WINS: Vivi

Vivi is the popular mage from Final Fantasy XI. He is hailed by many players for being one of the most charming characters in the series. Vivi has a host of abilities that could help him survive a fair amount of time against tough opponents. With that being said, even as a black mage who can cast double spells, we doubt he could do as much damage as Yennefer can in a one on one battle.

Sadly, even with Vivi buffing himself, we think that Yennefer would eventually break through his defenses and take down the poor black mage.

1 YENNEFER LOSES: Robin

Robin is a versatile character that can learn just about any skill in Fire Emblem Awakening. It is also shown in Super Smash Bros that Robin can take a beating from a large variety of attacks. Because of this resistance, we think that Robin could easily power through most of Yennefer’s attacks to get up close and personal with the sorceress.

While it would be a close fight, we think Robin’s resistance to damage would be just the edge needed for the character to come out victorious.
